| Plot: | It has been twenty-eight days since Jim, a young bicycle courier, was knocked off his bike and injured in a car accident. When he wakes up from his coma, the world has changed. London is deserted, litter-strewn and grim, and it seems the entire world has disappeared. The truth, however, is even more horrifying - a devestating psychological virus has been unleashed on the world, turning the population into blood-crazed psychopaths driven only to kill and destroy the uninfected. A bitter struggle to get out of the city with fellow survivors to a military encampment at Manchester follows - but there, their troubles are just beginning... |

GEOG: The M602 is not 26 miles northeast of Manchester, as was mentioned in the looping radio broadcast from the army. It runs east-west, straight from the centre of Manchester, for about 5 miles. Continuity: When Jim is walking through London, there is a shot of Big Ben and the clock face reads 8:15, however in the next shot the clock appears to read 6:40. Crew: SPOILER: When Frank has been shot and the soldiers are approaching his body, you can see a cameraman lying down at the right of the screen in front of a concrete block. He's clearly visible for about three seconds. Crew: When the camera pulls back to show Manchester aflame, if you look at the south bound lane of the motorway, you can see a row of flashing lights in the distance. This is the police keeping the traffic back so that the road looks clear. Also if you look to the left of the lights about two seconds later, you can faintly see a car drive by in the distance. Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When the soldiers are marching Jim and Sergeant Farrell off to shoot them, they are standing by piles of dead people. A few of the dead victim's chest can be seen rising and falling. Continuity: In the first shot of Centre Point at Tottenham Court Road, only one lorry is parked beneath the building. However, in the second shot that is slightly closer up, a second one has appeared parked in front of the first. Continuity: In the night sequences at the mansion, despite torrential rain, thunder and lightning, a full moon is seen shining brightly in a clear sky over the mansion. Continuity: SPOILER: Towards the end of the movie, Hannah crashes the car through the gate. But in the next scene, the car is seen without any damage at all. Fact errors: Major West's SA80 fires many more rounds than would likely be in the magazine. Continuity: SPOILER: When the jeep returns to the mansion after picking up Jim, Selena and Hannah from the roadblock, two soldiers open the gate to let the jeep into the grounds. The black soldier is played by Marvin Campbell , who plays Private Mailer, the soldier tied up in the backyard. On the DVD commentary, Danny Boyle explains this continuity error came about because he was so impressed with Campbell in the few small scenes he had shot that he decided to promote him into the as yet uncast role of Mailer. All of Campbell's already shot scenes were then deleted from the film, except the one of him opening the gate. Crew: As Jim looks out the window of Frank's taxi a few seconds after they first leave the apartment, two cameramen are clearly visible standing atop a rooftop in the window's reflection. CHAR: When the Private Bell tells Jim that he is out of ammo as he runs out the window, he says that he is out of bullets, but soldiers are trained to call it by its proper name which is ammunition or simply ammo. CHAR: In the scene where Frank and Jim are on top of the apartment building talking about the lack of rain, you can clearly see that among the many buckets for gathering rain there are two laundry baskets designed with holes in them. Revealing mistakes: (At 10:30) You can see another person walking up a distant sidewalk. Since Jim is calling out for someone, this person would have heard Jim or Jim would have saw him. Clearly, this is an error and this person is not participating in the movie. PLOT: In the beginning of the movie, it shows that the Rage Virus makes people lose a lot of blood. Yet, when Jim is walking around the destroyed hospital and streets, there is no blood seen. Revealing mistakes: When Jim walks into his old house, his mother and father are seen holding a picture of him. Their nails hint that they have been dead awhile. Yet, the skin has not turned color after being dead for weeks. And, after one dies, unlike popular rumors, hair and nails do not keep growing. FAIR: It is revealed in the movie that Rage can be passed on from man to animal or animal to man, and by means of biting, or blood of the infected landing in the victims mouth, eyes or nose. We never see any infected dogs or birds of prey on the loose in the movie, but this makes sense because the virus might very well require a host more closely related to humans, like the chimps from which the outbreak originally began. This is reinforced when we see the horses that are not infected. GEOG: The blockade is supposed to be situated North East of Manchester. Yet during the scene when Jim escapes back to it, the signs read Blackpool and Fleetwood, and also shows signs for Lancaster and the Lake District. These signs are only seen on the M6, running to the West of Manchester. CHAR: A soldier radios in "... , I repeat...". In UK signals, "repeat" is reserved for artillery fire; correct would have been "I say again". Crew: During the first shot of Centre Point at Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street, on the left side of the screen, a man can be seen changing the bags of a dustbin to the right of the stationary lorry. Revealing mistakes: As we cross a deserted Westminster Bridge, if you glimpse in the background, you can see the traffic lights at the junction of Bridge Street and Victoria Embankment at red., but the National Grid has been shut down. Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: In the alternate ending after Jim dies in the hospital he can clearly be seen breathing as Selina is stooped over him. FAIR: When you hear the recording about where the "answer to infection" is, it mentions the M602, 26 miles outside of Manchester. Contrary to popular opinion, the UK uses Imperial measurements for distances, so the usage of "miles" is correct. |

Jim: No, no. No, see, this is a really shit idea. You know why? Because it's really obviously a shit idea. [Hannah hits Jim over the head with a bottle] Selena: Hannah, it's OK. He's not infected. Hannah: But I thought he was biting you. Jim: Kissing. I was kissing her. Are you stoned? Selena: It's a long story. Jim: That was longer than a heartbeat. Jim: Do you know I was thinking? Selena: You were thinking that you'll never hear another piece of original music ever again. You'll never read a book that hasn't already been written or see a film that hasn't already been shot. Jim: Um, that's what you were thinking. Selena: No. I was thinking I was wrong. Jim: About what? Selena: All the death. All the shit. It doesn't really mean anything to Frank and Hannah because... Well, she's got a Dad and he's got his daughter. So, I was wrong when I said that staying alive is as good as it gets. Jim: See, that's what I was thinking. Selena: Was it? Jim: Hmm. You stole my thought. Selena: Sorry. Jim: It's okay. You keep it. Jim: And then I wake up today in hospital. I wake up, and I'm... I'm hallucinating or I'm... Mark: What's your name? Jim: Jim. Mark: I'm Mark. This is Selena. OK, Jim. I've got some bad news. Selena: What's up? Jim: Nothin'. Got a headache. Selena: Bad? Jim: Yeah, it's pretty bad. Selena: Well, why didn't you say anything before? Jim: Well, because I didn't think you'd give a shit. Hannah: Are you trying to kill me? Selena: No, sweetheart. I'm making you not care. Okay? Jim: World's worst place to get a flat, huh? Frank: Agreed. I think we better do this quick? Selena: He was full of plans. Have you got any plans, Jim? Do you want us to find a cure and save the world or just fall in love and fuck? Plans are pointless. Staying alive's as good as it gets. Selena: I don't want her to have to fucking cope. Sergeant Farrell: Well, I think Bill's got a point. If you look at the whole life of the planet, we... you know, man, has only been around for a few blinks of an eye. So if the infection wipes us all out, that is a return to normality. Jim: [walking around deserted London] Hello? Major Henry West: I promised them women. Mark: A man walks into a bar with a giraffe. They both get pissed. The giraffe falls over. The man goes to leave and the bartender says, "Oi. You can't leave that lyin' there." And the man says, "No. It's not a lion. It's a giraffe." [Jim doesn't respond] Mark: Completely humorless. [Jim is walking into a restaurant] Selena: We have enough food. Jim: Yeah, but we don't have any cheeseburgers. Jim: Oh, great. Valium. Not only will we be able to go to sleep, if we get attacked in the middle of the night, we won't even care. Major Henry West: This is what I've seen in the four weeks since infection. People killing people. Which is much what I saw in the four weeks before infection, and the four weeks before that, and before that, and as far back as I care to remember. People killing people. Which to my mind, puts us in a state of normality right now. Jim's Mother: [written on a note to Jim] With endless love, we left you sleeping. Now we're sleeping with you. Don't wake up. Writing on a Wall: REPENT/THE END IS/EXTREMELY/FUCKING/NIGH Jim: What do you mean there's no government? There's always a government, they're in a bunker or a plane somewhere! Major Henry West: Have you met our "new age" sergeant? Tell me, Farrel, why exactly did you join the army? Selena: It started as rioting. But right from the beginning you knew this was different. Because it was happening in small villages, market towns. And then it wasn't on the TV any more. It was in the street outside. It was coming in through your windows. It was a virus. An infection. You didn't need a doctor to tell you that. It was the blood. It was something in the blood. By the time they tried to evacuate the cities it was already too late. Army blockades were overrun. And that's when the exodus started. Before the TV and radio stopped broadcasting there were reports of infection in Paris and New York. We didn't hear anything more after that. Frank: [to a crow eating a dead body] Get out of it. [stands] Get out of it! [kicks fence] Selena: [the gang enters an abandoned grocery store] Let's shop. Jim: Please... Corporal Mitchell: Believe me, I'm not interested. [first lines] Activist: Bingo. [last lines] Selena: Do you think he saw us this time? [finding a crate of fresh apples in a pile of rotting produce] Frank: Mmmmmm... Irradiated! Hannah: [to Major West] I don't want to eat. I want to bury my dad. He's one of the people you're talking about! [an infected is shot and falls to the ground] Private Jones: Mitch, I fucking got one! Corporal Mitchell: What you want a fucking sweetie? Keep shooting, you cunt! Frank: You'd never think it. Needing rain so badly. Not in fucking England! Major Henry West: You killed all my boys... Sergeant Farrell: Think! Just think! What would you do with a diseased little island? [pause] Sergeant Farrell: They've quarantined us. There is no infection... Just people killing people... HE'S INSANE! Mark: ...i remember my dad had all this cash. Mark: Even tho' cash was completely useless. Mark: i remember the ground was soft. Mark: i looked down and i was standing on all these people, like a carpet. Mark: No-one could run, all you could was climb... climb over more people... |
