Continuity: When Jack leaves the underground parking garage, his Porsche has 15-spoke rims. When he arrives at the university, his car has 5-spoke rims. Continuity: During the live interview with Forster, the time jumps from 11:09 PT to 11:06 PT. GEOG: Early in the movie, a Shoppers Drug Mart is clearly visible. Shoppers Drug Mart is a Canadian chain, with stores in Vancouver, where the movie was filmed, but not Seattle, where the movie is set. Continuity: SPOILER: When killer attaches the carabiner to the rope around Joanie Cates' leg, she is wearing pajama bottoms. She wasn't wearing pajamas; her sister Janie was. GEOG: When Jack Gramm gets into the taxi at the beginning of the film, an orange "24 Hours" newsstand is visible in the background. 24 Hours is a newspaper published only in major Canadian cities, including Vancouver, where the film was shot. CHAR: In the MSNBC interview, Jon Forrester's name is spelled John. Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When Dr. Gramm's Porsche explodes, it is clearly a mock-up. The bottom of the car has an obviously fake exhaust system. Crew: When Jack Gramm stops the motorbike in the parking lot, a crew member is visible in the background, wearing combat-patterned trousers and a black T-shirt. Continuity: After Jack receives his first phone call while giving his lecture, he places his cell phone screen down. The next time it rings, the phone is screen-up. Continuity: About 45 minutes in to the film, Jack answers a cellphone left hand. In the next shot, it's in his right hand, then back to his left. Continuity: Jack's hair goes from long to short and back several times. GEOG: Roots stores appear twice: behind Jack and Kim when they go out on the street to get the Porsche, and behind a character walking down the street. Roots is a Canadian chain, with no stores in Seattle. The only US stores are in Beverly Hills CA, Aspen CO, Birmingham MI, and Park City UT. Continuity: SPOILER: Lydia wears heavy eye makeup before her death scene, but not after. SYNC: After the warning about "88 minutes" is called in, a man passes by on a bicycle. The sound you hear is a bike coasting, not a man cycling. GEOG: At least one shot shows a green "Metro" box. Metro is a free newspaper distributed in 7 major Canadian cities, including Vancouver, where the film was shot. In the US, Metro is distributed in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, not Seattle, where the film is set. Fact errors: When Jack finds out the Mariners score, he has 76 minutes left, meaning the time is around 10:30 am. The Seattle score is on the bottom, which means they are playing at home. MLB games never start before noon. Continuity: SPOILER: When the dean is hanging, her tormentor releases the rope, she drops slightly, and he reels her back up effortlessly. Yet two FBI guys struggle when they attempt the same task together. Continuity: After he commandeers the taxi, he pulls up to a curb right next to a telephone pole. When they exit the car moments later, the pole is missing. Continuity: The last time Gramm goes to his office, his office number is 316. Five minutes later, as he places a call from the elevator, the elevator's floor indicator goes from 4 to 3. GEOG: After Gramm leaves the Campus Security Office, he passes by a University of Northwest Washington campus map on the wall. If you look closely, it is actually a University of Washington Seattle campus map. The film was shot on the University of British Columbia campus. Continuity: A detective confronts Jack in front of a theater. In the close up, they are in front of some posters. In wider shots, they are nowhere near the posters. Continuity: SPOILER: When Jack discovers Sara's body, the position of the rope around her body changes in each shot. Continuity: At the beginning of the movie, when Gramm gets into the taxi, he tells cab driver to take him to 114 Western. When he arrives at the destination, the address on the front of the building is 1001. Continuity: SPOILER: When Jack is on the way to the seventh floor to meet his killer, he presses the button for the elevator on the fourth floor. It's too slow, so he goes to the stairwell. He enters the stairwell on the fifth floor. Continuity: When Gramm takes the cab from the cab driver for the first time, it is raining. When they arrive at their first destination, it is clear with no trace of rain. Continuity: When Jack reaches the 7th floor of the Stearns Bldg, he racks the slide on his pistol. But he had just fired a warning shot past the student's head a few minutes earlier, there was no need to cock the pistol. And when he does cock it, the slide locks back, indicating the pistol is now out of ammunition. Fact errors: SPOILER: The police detective tells Jack that DNA tests show his semen was found in the murder victim's body. DNA tests cannot be done in just hours even assuming they have Jack's DNA on file. Continuity: When Jack is running to the Stern building, he runs across a wet courtyard covered in leaves. Then from a camera angle above the courtyard, there are no leaves, and the pavement is dry. Continuity: In the scene where Jack synchronizes his watch with Agent Frank Parks, a closeup of Jack's watch shows a round face (it's clear this is Jack's watch from the color of the jacket sleeve). However, throughout the rest of the movie, Jack is clearly wearing a watch with a rectangular face. Continuity: When Jack Gramm fires the warning shot at his student in the office, we see a close up of the bullet making a hole in the door. However, in the next cut the door is opened and we see both sides of it. There isn't any hole in it. Continuity: The position of the cookies Jack places on the table in the boardroom changes from being on his folders to being beside them to right in front of the nearest phone in 3 consecutive shots. Continuity: When Jack goes to his appointment, the guard's mustache has a gap in the middle. When they cut back to him, the gap has gone. Continuity: The rims on Jack's car change throughout the movie. Continuity: Jack's facial hair is significantly different from his apartment to the cab scene. The size of the shaved area holes on his chin are different sizes. Continuity: When Jack and Kim are in driving in the Porsche in the city, the car is not as damaged as it was seen at University's parking place. |
Quotes
|
Dr. Jack Gramm: Whoever stole that tape knows the meaning of 88 minutes. [first lines] Kate: Look at me. Look at the kite. Sara Pollard: [to Jack] Psychiatrist by day, party animal by night. Special Agent Frank Parks: We got another one. Dr. Jack Gramm: Oh no. The same? Special Agent Frank Parks: Every detail, right down to the lateral lacerations. It's the Seattle Slayer again. Jeremy Guber: Would you say it was fair to characterize your attitude towards Jon Forster as a personal vendetta? Dr. Jack Gramm: Well, if we're being fair, yeah, sure. It's a personal vendetta. I have a personal vendetta against Ted Bundy, Gacy, and about ten or fifteen other serial murderers who are floating around in the streets right now. Dale Morris: [giving toast] To our impossibly difficult professor, we say thank you for making our lives miserable. Dr. Jack Gramm: The pleasure's all mine! Shelly Barnes: Just don't ask me to marry you again. Dr. Jack Gramm: Why not? We're perfect for each other. Shelly Barnes: Yeah, yeah... except I'm gay and you're a commitment-phobe. Dr. Jack Gramm: That's why we're perfect. Voice on phone: You have 88 minutes to live. Dr. Jack Gramm: What? Voice on phone: You know how long 88 minutes can be, don't you? That's 11:45 AM. Dr. Jack Gramm: Who's this? Dr. Jack Gramm: The legal distinction between sanity and insanity rests upon what? [class recites "Free will"] Dr. Jack Gramm: The concept of free will. And what is the most important thing one should remember when entering the courtroom? Lauren Douglas: That insanity is a legal concept. It's not a medical or psychiatric term, but despite the fact that insanity's a legal concept, it doesn't mean that someone's not sick. Dr. Jack Gramm: Yes, Lauren. Of all the serial killers that I've interviewed and studied, which include our boy Bundy here, Dahmer, Gacy - none of them were legally insane. That's not to say they were normal. Mike Stempt: I could argue that they couldn't help themselves precisely because of their mental disorders. Dr. Jack Gramm: Well, if you want to argue Mike, the school of law is across campus. [repeated line] Voice on phone: Tic-tock, doc. Jon Forster: Quack quack, Dr. Gramm. Jon Forster: [to Jack] Why don't you take a good look at your watch. A good look. Now imagine what it would be like to be minutes away from your own death. Do you hear the ticking of a clock and knowing that your time on earth is drawing to a close? Kim Cummings: Just another day in the life of Jack Gramm. Dr. Jack Gramm: [to Kim] You asked me about my kid sister. Okay, it was a long time ago. She was staying at my apartment in New York City. She was twelve, I was twenty-eight, and I was late for a meeting. A very important meeting. Meeting that was going to change my life, was gonna make me into somebody important, make all my dreams come true. So, I went to this meeting on this dissertation, and I left her there by herself. Now I could've taken her with me, I could've left her with friends, I could've post-poned the meeting... but I chose not to because I was in a hurry. Anyway, I left her there alone. At the time, I was working on a case. This guy had strangled six women. We were very close to nailing him. He was upset, and he wanted to get back at me, so he came to my apartment only I wasn't there. At that time, I wasn't as concerned for security. I was careless, so he broke the door down and he went in, and did things to my baby sister. Catherine was her name; Katie. He did things that you wouldn't do to an animal that was bred for slaughter. Anyway, when they caught him, he laughed and said it took him 88 minutes. It took him 88 minutes to hack my sister to bits. Kim Cummings: If Sara's not home, we don't have a search warrant. Dr. Jack Gramm: Well, we don't need a search warrant because we're not arresting anybody. We're just breaking and entering. Shelly Barnes: Can you ever forgive me? Dr. Jack Gramm: [while hugging her] If I can't forgive you Shelly, I don't deserve you. Special Agent Frank Parks: I know how you use people. It's no secret you're a womanizer. You drink too much. How do I know that you haven't gone completely over the edge? How do I know what you're capable of? Dr. Jack Gramm: [yelling] Oh man, I can't believe this! Well what did I do Frank? Did I send myself a tape? Did I blow up my car? Did I set my apartment on fire? Did I fire bullets at myself? Dr. Jack Gramm: Who sent you here? Mike Stempt: What, you think I'm too dumb to figure it out myself? Dr. Jack Gramm: Yes I do! Lauren Douglas: Punctual, Dr. Gramm. I'm gonna give you a B+ for effort. Lauren Douglas: God, I wish Forster could see your face! You look so totally clueless! Lauren Douglas: You see Jacko, I'm a true believer. Dr. Jack Gramm: Well, you better believe that there's an FBI agent with a gun pointed right at your head at this moment. Believe it. Jon Forster: Dr. Gramm, I want you to listen very closely, because when I get out of here I'm going to go have a nice hot meal, stop by your grave, and then piss all over it. Now please put my angel attorney on the phone. Dr. Jack Gramm: She's dead. It's over, Forster. Except for the clock that goes tic-tock, tic-tock. You got twelve hours to live. [throws cell phone away] Dr. Jack Gramm: [to Kim] Justice and truth - where do they intersect? [last lines] Dr. Jack Gramm: [to class] Hello, everyone. Jon Forster's dead. His execution was not a cause for celebration, nor is it an vindication. It is a chapter in the road to justice and recovery. I personally don't believe in capital punishment. I do believe in the rights of victims. I do believe that they deserve recompense, no matter how significant or insignificant it may be in comparison to the loss suffered. I've suffered such a loss and, like some of you here, I have spent those sleepless nights trying to desperately to squelch down that vile-ish instinct for revenge. And I have wondered if this pain will ever abate. I've learned that time does not heal the wound. It will, though, in it's most merciful way, blunt the edge ever so slightly. So... what is the first thing one should remember when entering a courtroom? Kim Cummings: [seeing Jack's gun] Oh, Walther P99. That'll blow a hole through any theory. |
