| Plot: | In 1967, mine workers find the remnants of an ancient vanished civilization named Abkani that believe there are the worlds of light and darkness. When they opened the gate between these worlds ten thousand years ago, something evil slipped through before the gate was closed. Twenty-two years ago, the Government Paranormal Research Agency Bureau 713 was directed by Professor Lionel Hudgens, who performed experiments with orphan children. On the present days, one of these children is the paranormal investigator Edward Carnby, who has just gotten an Abkani artifact in South America, and is chased by a man with abilities. When an old friend of foster house disappears in the middle of the night, he discloses that demons are coming back to Earth. With the support of the anthropologist Aline Cedrac and the leader of the Bureau 713, Cmdr. Richard Burke, and his squad, they battle against the evil creatures. |

DATE: The police cars that arrive at the orphanage "20 years ago" have three brake lights, a much more recent feature. Crew: At the beginning, a camera is reflected in the door of Carnby's taxi. Continuity: During the taxi chase at the beginning, the cab chasing Edward Carnby has no rear license plate in one shot, but gains one in the next shot. Miscellaneous: The end credits list a "TTransportation Captain". CHAR: One of the soldiers checks the pulse of a person lying on the ground, to see if the man is dead, with gloves on. Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: Agent Cheung dies in the cavern. When the team tries to find a way out of the tunnels, Agent Cheung raises her head just as Agent Barr walks past her. Revealing mistakes: When Pinkerton slams Carnby's head against the ground during their battle in Chinatown, several inches are visible between the actor's head and the floor at the moment of impact. Continuity: A taxi rams Carnby's taxi, denting the hood and bumper. Seconds later, when they turn a corner, the taxi is undamaged. GEOG: Set in California, but a Bank of Montreal building and a Canada Post box appear repeatedly. A Scotia Bank is visible in the last scene. Continuity: SPOILER: When Burke runs to set off the bomb, exterior shots of the sole remaining soldier show darkness. When Carnby and Cedrac blast through the storm door outside the orphanage, it's daylight. Continuity: SPOILER: When Ron is killed, he falls face down. When Edward Carnby and Aline Cedrac find him, he is on his back. Crew: When the camera pans the dead soldiers in the darkness, a camera man, trying to be as still as he can, is standing in the darkness behind the light on the stand. BOOM: When Reid inspects the contents of a box in her apartment, the shadow of a microphone can be seen on a pillar. Continuity: The bandage on Cedrac's arm, and the wound it covers, disappears, then reappears in her apartment. PLOT: In the last scene, the Xenos attack in broad daylight. Light is supposed to be lethal to them. Continuity: After the explosion at the end, Carnby and Cedrac exit the wooden structure near the orphanage. Earlier, when Carnby visited the orphanage to ask for the children's files, the structure wasn't there. Continuity: After Slater's cab is slammed into the wall and the villain backs up to ram the cab again, the camera shot shows the villain "throwing" the car into reverse. The car should already be in reverse, and should be shifted into drive to ram the other taxi. Continuity: When Carnby yells to Burke and then fires a shot to shoot a "zombie" coming behind Burke, all bullets are made visible with light. You clearly see the shot firing off way past Burke's head at high on the wall behind him, even leaving a puff of smoke. |

Young Boy: My mommy says that there is nothing to be afraid of in the dark. Edward Carnby: Your mother's wrong, kid. Being afraid of the dark is what keeps most of us alive. Edward Carnby: Fear is what protects you from the things you don't believe in. Edward Carnby: I learned the truth a long time ago. Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it can't kill you. Edward Carnby: I was tracking poachers across their lines in the Amazon when I hooked up with some ex-Chilean military trafficking artifacts on the black market. Cabbie: You travel light. Edward Carnby: I carry enough baggage for the both of us. [first lines] Prof. Lionel Hudgens: [narrating] In 1967, mine workers discovered the first remnants of a long lost Native American civilization - The Abkani. The Abkani believed that there are two worlds on this planet, a world of light and a world of darkness. 10,000 years ago the Abkani opened a gate between these worlds. Before they could close it, something evil slipped through. The Abkani mysteriously vanished from the Earth. Only a few artifacts remained, hidden in the world's most remote places. These artifacts speak of terrifying creatures that thrive in the darkness, waiting for the day when the gate can be opened again. Bureau 713, the government's paranormal research agency, was established to uncover the dark secrets of this lost civilization. Under the direction of archaeologist Lionel Hudgens, Bureau 713 began collecting Abkani artifacts. When the government shut down his controversial research, Hudgens built a laboratory hidden within an abandonded gold mine. There, he conducted savage experiments on orphaned children in an attempt to merge man with creature. Hudgens victims survived as "sleepers" - lost souls awaiting the moment of their calling. [last lines] Edward Carnby: The gate was closed again. But, like the Abkani discovered there's a price to pay for bringing darkness into the light. The Abkani people were wiped off the face of the Earth. And now it looks like it's happening all over again. Aline Cedrac: I think it's Abkani! Cmdr. Richard Burke: This doesn't make any sense. Aline Cedrac: I thought you were dead, asshole. |
