Continuity: Alex spills ice cubes on the sofa, but they have disappeared by the time he has finished recalling Louie's and Corinne's wedding (there's not enough time for them to have melted, although he could have been clearing up while we weren't looking). Continuity: At the end of the movie Alex is talking to the newspaper editor and then to Corinne, and the sling on his arm changes position between shots. Continuity: As Alex and Corinne are getting undressed, Alex's underpants change from white boxers in the close-up to blue briefs in the long shot. Fact errors: The newspaper issue at the end shows the date to be Sunday August 7, 1989. August 7, 1989 was a Monday. Continuity: Corrine is wearing a pink coat at work, later when she gets home to first meet Alex at the barbecue she is wearing a green one. Continuity: During the seduction between Alex and Corinne in front of the sofa, as they are disrobing you can see that Corinne is barefooted. As Philip enters the room and the fight scene begins there is a quick shot of Corinne with shoes now back on her feet. Continuity: When Corinne is putting on "Jackie Kennedy's" earrings in the museum, she puts on the left earring twice. CHAR: The contribution check from Mavis Talmadge is made out to the "Smithsonian Institute." It is actually the "Smithsonian Institution." |

[Corinne hasn't had sex since her husband died 20 years ago] Corinne Jeffries: I don't know if it's just his body I'm attracted to or his soul... or if it's just me. Oh, I'm feeling generally... attracted. The truth is, I'm so ripe I'm about to fall off the vine. [an angel explains to Louie why he feels funny] Angel: What do you expect? Your body's cream sauce all over Wisconsin Avenue. [Philip thinks Alex is only after Corinne's money] Corinne Jeffries: You're wrong. He wants my body. Corinne Jeffries: My psychiatrist says I suffer from the halo effect, the tendency of widows to idealize their dead husbands. He says it keeps me from falling in love again. He has a point, but I can't imagine I'll ever stop loving Louie. [to her psychiatrist] Corinne Jeffries: I came here to tell you that I'm interested in someone... a man. Well, he's almost a man... he's twenty-two years old. But it's not like I'm rushing into anything - I've know him for twenty-six years... It's a little complicated. Philip Train: I'm going to find out once and for all what it feels like to hold the woman I love, have always loved and will always love until the day I die. Miranda Jeffries: Weirdness is not a criminal offense. If it were, you'd be serving a life sentence. Woman in the bookstore: [quizzing Alex about past lives] Who were you? Alex Finch: Oh, me, I was no-one special. Woman in the bookstore: Oh, we're all special! Alex Finch: I mean I wasn't Cleopatra or Hannibal or someone great or famous. Woman in the bookstore: I know you weren't Cleopatra! I was. Alex Finch: I'm Louie! Philip Train: Yeah, and I'm Cleopatra! Alex Finch: You are not! Corinne Jeffries: Stop it! Alex Finch: You fight like her though! [Miranda comes into the room, wearing lingerie; she crawls under Alex's sheets. Alex thinks it's Corrine] Alex Finch: Hi darling. Miranda Jeffries: Shh! Mom's next door. Alex Finch: What are you doing here? Miranda Jeffries: What does it *look* like I'm doing? Alex Finch: Miranda! [covers up his chest] Miranda Jeffries: What? Alex Finch: It's way past your bedtime! Go to your room! Philip Train: Now, look, I'm just a dumb newspaperman. I believe Monday follows Sunday, I believe that summer follows spring. I believe in God and glasnost, I believe in things you can touch. |
