Plot: In New York, the journalist and compulsive liar Rebecca Bloomwood is an addicted consumer that can not resist shopping fashionable clothes and outfits in fancy shops and has several unplayable debts with the credit cards. She dreams on working in the fashion magazine Alette owned by the sophisticated Alette Naylor, but she does not succeed in her intent. When Becky loses her job, she drinks a lot of booze with her best friend Suze and sends an offensive letter to the editor Luke Brandon from the financial magazine "Successful Saving" and an article to Alette to show her potential. However, she unintentionally switches the correspondences in the mailbox and Luke hires her to write a column called "The Girl in the Green Scarf" in his magazine using a simple language and metaphors that could be easily understood by common people. Meanwhile the debt collector Derek Smeath is chasing Becky and she is avoiding him everywhere, telling that he is an ex-boyfriend that is stalking her. When her column becomes a success, Becky is invited to participate in a talk show and Luke and she fall in love for each other. However, her lies and debts put her in a difficult situation with her audience, Suze and Luke.

Goofs

Continuity: At Rebecca's first meeting at Successful Savings, she pulls out a small notebook and lays a pencil to the left of it. In the next shot, as she pulls out a small pencil sharpener, the pencil is on the opposite side of the notebook.
Continuity: While Rebecca is in the interview at Successful Savings, the desk behind her is alternately occupied and empty between shots. In one shot, Hayley talking on the phone, with the green scarf on her lap. In the next shot, she is gone. In the next shot, she is at the door, giving Rebecca her scarf.
Continuity: During the fan dance, the fan changes positions between wide and tight shots.
Continuity: When Rebecca's friend is trying on the wedding dress, a pair of sunglasses appears out of nowhere. Rebecca plays with them in her hands. They go from her hands to her head, back to her hands, and disappear.
Continuity: At the Successful Savings office, Luke says he wants Rebecca to go to the "APA conference." Rebecca asks Hayley what the APA conference is. The camera moves to Luke. when it moves back to Rebecca, Hayley is gone.
Continuity: The bridesmaid dress had sleeves at the beginning of the movie, but is sleeveless by the end.
Crew: SPOILER: When Rebecca first throws the block of ice to free her credit card, the block falls from the stove to the floor. As the camera follows it, a crew member is kneeling down, in black jeans and tennis shoes.
Continuity: In the last scene, when Bex is walking past the mannequins and talking to Luke, every shot of Luke shows a woman in the background, starting in the same spot behind him, walking toward the camera.
CHAR: After Rebecca talks to the Nokia man, Janne Virtanen of Finland, he claims "We Scandinavians like her." Scandinavia consists of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. Finns don't consider themselves Scandinavians.
Revealing mistakes: When Rebecca is riding in a cab, you can see a close-up of the window. Two billboards are reflected in the window, but the images are not reversed.
FAIR: SPOILER: Derek Smeath violates the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act at least 4 times: calling Rebecca at work, refusing to leave her job when asked by the receptionist, telling his colleague to threaten her with public humiliation, and his entire diatribe during the television show. However, many *real* debt collectors ignore FDCPA, since it's not enforceable if no one complains, and many debt collectors assume that most debtors don't know about it.
CHAR: When the receptionist of Dantay-West headquarters checks his email, one of email box columns is misspelled "Recieved".
FAIR: When Suze and Rebecca are going over credit card statements, Suze asks Rebecca how she will pay off "16 thousand, TWELVE hundred, 62 dollars, and 72 cents" without a job. Both women are very drunk by this point, so she probably is too drunk to read the number correctly.
FAIR: When Rebecca goes to Alette to retrieve the envelope that she mailed, she is rapidly presses the elevator button, and it appears she is trying to go to the 20th floor. However, the floor numbers are listed their respective buttons. She is pressing the 17th floor button, but her hand is covering the number.
Continuity: At the end of the movie, when Rebecca and Luke are standing together, a couple walks by. When the shot changes from Luke back to the two of them, the same couple walks by again.
Continuity: When Rebecca and Luke are standing together in front of Acery, the mannequin in the window wears a black dress with white spots. In the next shot, it's wearing a different dress.
Continuity: When Rebecca and Luke are kissing, the man in the shop places a pair of shoes facing the window. In the next scene, the shoes are pointing in different directions.
Continuity: At the end of the movie when Rebecca and Luke are kissing, the man in the shop places a pair of shoes facing towards the window, in the next scene the shoes are placed in different directions.

Quotes

Graham Bloomwood: Your mother and I think that if the American
economy can be billions in debt and still survive, so can you.
Denny & George Clerk: Declined.
Rebecca Bloomwood: Can you try again?
Denny & George Clerk: Really Declined.
Suze: Don't you think it's ironic that Rebecca Bloomwood is advising
people on how to handle money.
Suze: Fluent in Finnish?
Rebecca Bloomwood: Everyone has fudged their resume a little.
Rebecca Bloomwood: When I was 7 most of my friends stopped believing
in magic. That's when I first started. Tehy were beautiful, they
were happy. They didn't even need any money, they had magic cards.
Rebecca Bloomwood: You know that thing when you see someone cute and
he smiles and your heart kind of goes like warm butter sliding down
hot toast? Well that's what it's like when I see a store. Only it's
better.
Rebecca Bloomwood: You speak Prada?
Rebecca Bloomwood: Men like you are the reason I left Finland.
Rebecca Bloomwood: Yes, I Googled.
Rebecca Bloomwood: I know I've made some mistakes, but I"m turning my
life around.
Luke Brandon: She's not my girlfriend. She's not you.
Rebecca Bloomwood: When I shop, the world gets better, and the world
is better, but then it's not, and I need to do it again.
Luke Brandon: Any financial stories that have caught your eye
recently?
Rebecca Bloomwood: Yes. And I am glad you brought that up. [Acts mad]
Because I am furious. No, I really am. [Looks down at a newspaper
folded in half with article title cut off] No, I mean, what is the
story with the recent fish crisis?
Luke Brandon: [Looks at her confused] Fish crisis?
Rebecca Bloomwood: [Realizes she made a mistake] Fiscal... crisis.
Luke Brandon: Fiscal crisis.
Rebecca Bloomwood: Terrifying, Fiscally, I mean.
Luke Brandon: How so?
Rebecca Bloomwood: For the... fiscal family.
Hayley: [Interrupts their conversation] I'm sorry
Luke Brandon: Not a moment too soon.
Rebecca Bloomwood: They said I was a valued customer. Now they send
me hate mail.
Tarquin: Why do so many of your excuses involve Finland?
Rebecca Bloomwood: Because nobody checks up on Finland,Tarkie.
Rebecca Bloomwood: A man will never love you or treat you as well as
a store. If a man doesn't fit, you can't exchange him seven days
later for a gorgeous cashmere sweater. And a store always smells
good. A store can awaken a lust for things you never even knew you
needed. And when your fingers first grasp those shiny, new bags...
oh yes... oh yes.
Rebecca Bloomwood: Don't talk about Fluke.
Suze: Why? What happened?
Rebecca Bloomwood: Alicia Bitch Longlegs is what happened.
Suze: I hate her. Who is she?
Rebecca Bloomwood: And all I would say, is that you never hear anyone
say, "There goes a zebra with a small ass."
Rebecca Bloomwood: You are like my soul sister!
D. Freak: My name is D. Freak. Uh, I'm a shopaholic. [everybody
greets him] I'm also a former NBA player. [brushing against the
woman next to him] We'll get back to that.
[Miss Kortch goes through everyone's duties]
Miss Korch: Millinery?
D. Freak: What you call me?
Miss Korch: Hats.
D. Freak: Oh.
Rebecca Bloomwood: [to her potential employer] I can do affordable
fashion. I mean, I know where all the sales are.
Jane Bloomwood: Yes, she does. Oh, in fact she got that from me.
Rebecca Bloomwood: [laughing hysterically] No, I didn't. I didn't. I
didn't, I didn't, I didn't.
Graham Bloomwood: [talk to Rebecca] Life is like a swap meet. You
never know when great riches... are going to turn up unexpectedly.
Suze: [Rebecca pushes away bills] I'll do this. It can't be that bad.
It's just like a band-aid. It's gonna be fine. [both gasp loudly]
Bex! Two hundred dollars on Marc Jacobs underwear?
Rebecca Bloomwood: [pours the tequila] Oh, underwear is a basic,
human, right.
Suze: Seventy eight dollars on lavender honey?
Rebecca Bloomwood: I felt sorry for the shop assistant. She had a
lazy eye. I didn't know which way she was looking! I didn't know if
she was looking at me, it was so sad.
Suze: I can't even talk about this one.
Suze: Bex, I just found the perfect book for you.
Garret E. Barton: Control Your Urge to Shop, with Garrett E. Barton.
That's me. Do you find yourself constantly drawn toward stores?
Suze: Yes.
Rebecca Bloomwood: Nope.
Garret E. Barton: Does your heart quicken when you see new
merchandise in neatly stacked piles?
Suze: Yes!
Rebecca Bloomwood: no.
Suze: this guy's good!
Garret E. Barton: Did you answer "no" to these questions and are
consequently in denial?
Suze: yes.
Rebecca Bloomwood: NO.
Garret E. Barton: Did you just say "no" again?
Rebecca Bloomwood: no...
Rebecca Bloomwood: yes...
