| Plot: | Selma is a Czechoslovakian immigrant, a single mother working in a factory in rural America. Her salvation is her passion for music, specifically, the all-singing, all-dancing numbers found in classic Hollywood musicals. Selma harbors a sad secret: she is losing her eyesight and her son Gene stands to suffer the same fate if she can't put away enough money to secure him an operation. When a desperate neighbor falsely accuses Selma of stealing his savings, the drama of her life escalates to a tragic finale. |

Fact errors: Even though the character of Selma is from Czechoslovakia, her accent is not Czech. Continuity: SPOILER: A drip of blood on Selma's cheek disappears and then reappears during the ride in Jeff's truck after she's killed Bill. Continuity: When Bill tells Selma he has no money, Selma's hair repeatedly switches from being over her ears, to being tucked behind them. Continuity: When Selma knocks on the door and her foreman answers it the door opens from the wrong direction and they are clearly not in the same factory building. SYNC: When Kathy shows up to help Selma on the night shift she is speaking but her mouth is clearly not saying the words we hear. CHAR: Selma nicknames Kathy with the wrong pronunciation - kvalda, instead of tsvalda. If Selma was of Czech origin, she would make such a mistake. |

Selma: In a musical, nothing dreadful ever happens. Lines on screen: They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be. Selma: I listen to my heart. Selma: [talking about musical films] You know when the camera goes really big and it comes up out of the roof, and you just know that it's gonna end? I hate that. Selma: You like the movies, don't you? Bill Houston: I love the movies. I just love the musicals. Selma: But isn't it annoying when they do the last song in the films? Bill Houston: Why? Selma: Because you just know when it goes really big... and the camera goes like out of the roof... and you just know it's going to end. I hate that. I would leave just after the next to last song... and the film would just go on forever. Jeff: [referring to Gene] Why did you have him? You knew he would have the same disease as you. Selma: I just wanted to hold a little baby. Selma: There's no more to see... Selma: [singing] This isn't the last song, there's no violin, the choir is quiet, and no one takes a spin, this is the next to last song, and that's all... |
