| Plot: | Thomas Craven, a single father, has been a Boston homicide detective for many years. His 24-year-old daughter Emma, his only child, is killed on the front steps of his home. At first it appears that Craven was the intended target. He soon uncovers evidence that leads him to think differently, and decides to pursue the information at all costs. He learns his daughter led a secret life that led to her murder. He quickly finds himself confronted with a shadowy world of corporate collusion with government-sanctioned murder. In the process he collides with a secret government operative, Darius Jedburgh, whose job is to clean up and hide any remaining evidence. Craven's singleness of purpose in finding answers about Emma's death becomes a transforming experience that changes his life. |

CHAR: Bennett says that Northmoor was located on an old Nike nuclear missile silo. Nike missiles were surface-to-air missiles that predate, could intercept, and were rendered obsolete by the ICBMs Bennett erroneously claimed them to be. Revealing mistakes: When they are driving in the rain, the rain is rolling down the windows. If they were driving, the wind would push the rain drops along the windows, not down them. Fact errors: When Tom Craven questions Burnham about the gun he loaned to Emma, Gibson says the gun is licensed in Vermont, and therefore illegal in Massachusetts. Aside from federal requirements, Vermont does not have firearm licensing or registration. Tom Craven couldn't have accessed a Vermont firearms database; it doesn't exist. Fact errors: On "Inside Washington" (1988), panelists discuss issues while Gordon Peterson moderates. Peterson never does interviews on his show. CHAR: The scene in which Jedburgh sees the Dr. One of the chest X-rays (lateral view) is hung upside down. Continuity: When Jedburgh is visiting Craven and having a whiskey, he takes a pill and clearly drinks only about a half of his drink. After this he immediately stands up and puts his glass on the table. However his glass is strangely empty. Revealing mistakes: In the scene where Craven is driving in the rain, right before he enters the tunnel, the Berkeley Building in behind him - with a steady blue light. The Berkeley Building is topped by a weather beacon, with different patterns: Steady blue, clear view. Flashing blue, clouds due. Steady red, rain ahead. Flashing red, snow. If it was really raining, the light pattern would have been a steady Red, instead of Blue in the movie. Continuity: When Craven walks toward the ocean with his daughter's ashes, his pants are rolled up to his knees and they're already wet, even though he hasn't entered the water yet. FAIR: SPOILER: When Melissa gets out of the car after her conversation with Thomas Craven, she immediately gets hit by a car which also tears off the car door. The car makes a U-turn to come back for Thomas Craven. At first glance, the front of the car seems to be completely undamaged, without a single scratch. However, closer inspection reveals a large dent in the upper part of the left fender, possibly indicative of where both cars made contact. Continuity: When Thomas Craven goes to drive out of the multi-story car park he drives right when you can clearly see the exit sign pointing in the opposite direction. Continuity: When Bennett reaches into the cupboard during the final fight scene, he leaves a bloody hand-print on the cupboard. The amount of blood changes between shots. Continuity: When Craven dumps his daughter's bag out on to the bed, he ruffles through her clothing to find her cell phone. In the next shot, the cell phone is covered by a brown shirt. Continuity: In one scene, Bennett has cleared off entire shelves of pill vials. In the next shot, a few vials are in the back corners of the shelves. Continuity: When Craven stops Bennett's Bentley, gets into the back, and points the gun at Bennett, the door behind Bennett is closed. In a close-up, it's open. Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When Emma Craven is shot in the chest by a shotgun blast, she goes flying back a good distance. According to Discovery Channel's MythBusters, and Newton's third law, the victim of the blast would be thrown back no further than the shooter was knocked back by firing. Continuity: When Thomas Craven leaves the hospital after Melissa is rundown he gets into his car. While sitting in the car he starts watching his daughter's DVD, given to him by Melissa, on his laptop which he left in the car. Odd, since his right-side door was missing. GEOG: When Craven is traveling to Union Street in Northampton, he is seen turning right off of Market Street onto Bridge Street. This is in fact the wrong direction. Union Street is off of Market Street, two blocks back. e is traveling in the wrong direction. FAIR: Tom Craven says his daughter was poisoned with thallium, which he finds using a Geiger counter. While normal non-radioactive thallium causes heavy metal poisoning but not radiation sickness, there are radioactive forms of thallium which are normal byproducts of nuclear decay. The radioactive form would be more likely available from a nuclear facility than the non-radioactive form. CHAR: Craven makes the statement that his daughter was poisoned by thallium, pronouncing it "thay-li-um". The first syllable is correctly pronounced to rhyme with the first syllable in "California". |

Thomas Craven: [from trailer] You had better decide whether you're hangin' on the cross... or bangin' in the nails. Thomas Craven: Welcome to Hell! Senator Jim Pine: I am a United States senator! Jedburgh: By what standards? Thomas Craven: I'm a guy with nothin to lose! Thomas Craven: Fasten your fuckin' seatbelt! Thomas Craven: Everything's illegal in Massachusetts. Northmoor Doctor: I'm not a counselor. I know you wanna banter with me. I don't do that. I can only give you the facts. Jedburgh: Well, we all know what the facts are. We live a while and then we die sooner than we planned. Bill Whitehouse: It isn't what it is, Tommy. It is never what it is. It is what it can be made to look like. Thomas Craven: You know, Bill, no one expects you to be perfect. But there's just a few basic things you gotta get right. Always do the best you can by your family. Go to work every day. Always speak your mind. Never hurt anyone that doesn't deserve it... & never take anything from the bad guys. Jedburgh: Now, you know better than anyone, cases like these are never solved. They're simply too complicated, too much hard work. There's a lot going on out there in this world. And you just never can connect A to B. Thomas Craven: How do you know that? Jedburgh: Because I'm usually the guy that stops you connecting A to B. It's part of what I do. Jedburgh: I don't know what it means to have lost a child, but I know what it means never to have had one. Thomas Craven: Yeah, got nobody left to bury you. Thomas Craven: I'm not gonna hit you again, she wouldn't want me to. Thomas Craven: But she's not here because of you! [punches him again] Senator Jim Pine: You left as a Master Sergeant of a heavy weapons platoon. Thomas Craven: Ah, yes sir. Senator Jim Pine: How'd you do that at 20? Thomas Craven: Everybody else was dead. Thomas Craven: You had better decide if you're hanging on the cross, or banging in the nails. Thomas Craven: We're all terminal Millroy, even middle management. [last lines] Jedburgh: You got a family? State Trooper #2: [yes] Jedburgh: Kids? State Trooper #2: Yeah. Jedburgh: [lowers his weapon] |
