| Plot: | Connor Mead, a successful fashion photographer and a Lothario keen on casual sex, goes to his younger brother's wedding to convince him not to marry. He arrives at his dead uncle's estate during the rehearsal the night before the wedding; he starts in, taking his brother aside, trashing marriage. Later in the men's room, his uncle, who taught Connor all he knows about women, appears to him, confesses to have been wrong, and tells Connor that three ghosts will visit him that night: the ghosts of girlfriends past, present, and future. Connor has already set the breakup in motion. Can he learn anything from his life and fix what he's broken? |

Goofs
|
Continuity: During Connor's speech, Sandra's makeup is messed up with black smudges under her eyes, but when the camera angle changes, the smudges are gone. Revealing mistakes: When Conner's iPhone rings during the rehearsal dinner, he answers it and talks, but it's upside down during the entire conversation. Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When Connor tries to break up future Brad and future Jenny's wedding, he passes through them like a ghost, but his foot catches the priest's robes and makes them move. CHAR: Sergeant Major is supposed to be a Marine officer, but uses the Army's "Hooah" response, rather than the Marines' "Oorah" (equivalent to Navy's "Hooyah"). Similarly, his nickname "Sarge" is an Army or Air Force term, Marines are very insulted by it. Continuity: While Jennifer Garner is dancing with Daniel Sunjata she is wearing closed shoes but runs to the kitchen when she hears a commotion. She then appears in the kitchen wearing strap sandals. Continuity: SPOILER: When Conner crashes his uncle's Cadillac, it is seen going in to the lake. Later in the scene, it is seen parked in front of the lake. FAIR: Nadja/Nadia is not strictly a Russian girl's name, but is common in many countries throughout the world. Famous Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci, who shares a nationality with the Nadja in this movie. CHAR: During the initial scene where Sergeant Volkom meets Connor Mead, Volom complains there were never any films made about the Korean War. This is incorrect. There were numerous films made, including a major Korean-made film released in the USA. (Four American-made Korean War films were Pork Chop Hill (1959) staring Gregory Peck, The Steel Helmet (1951) staring Gene Evans , Fixed Bayonets! (1951) starring Richard Basehart and Gene Evans, and MASH (1970) with Donald Sutherland , both the inspiration for "M*A*S*H" (1972) and based on a book written by an in-theater MASH doctor. The major Korean-made film released in the USA was Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo (2004). As a veteran of the Korean War, Sergeant Volkom would certainly have been aware of at least the first film, "Pork Chop Hill" (1959). As an actor who has been in the business since 1962, Robert Forster himself may even have been aware of the Gregory Peck film.) He also states the war "lost more men than 'Nam." Actually, it was around 2,000 less. DATE: Regarding the smoke from the Cadillac's front tires, the car is a Cadillac Eldorado somewhere between a 1971 and 1978. Beginning with the 1967 model year, all Eldorados were front wheel drive. They shared the same drive train as their sister, the Oldsmobile Toronado. Continuity: SPOILER: When Connor first drives the Cadillac through the windows and down the hill the front right fender is dented, but a few seconds later there is no dent any more. Continuity: When Conner meets Vonda, he orders them both a drink. As they talk, his glass is noticeably empty sitting on the bar, but a moment later he takes a drink and the glass is full again. Continuity: When Connor and Jenny are cleaning up the cake mess, Jenny is at one moment holding the bride, but the camera angle changes and she is suddenly holding the groom. Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: While Conner is taking pictures at the wedding we see the flash on the subjects in the scene, but there is no flash on the camera and no remote flash units are seen anywhere in the room. CHAR: SPOILER: Connor locks the girls in the Ford Expedition. They seem to forget that they can still unlock the doors from the inside. Revealing mistakes: When young Connor and Jenny are shown together in 1982, he says his parents died a year later. However, later in the movie his brother says Connor was 7 when his parents died which would have made he and Jenny 6 when they were on the swing and she gave him the camera. The actors are clearly much older than 6. Maybe 11 or 12. CHAR: During rehearsal, when the bride and groom are facing each other, they're told by Sergeant Volkom to turn 180 degrees. They do however turn 90 degrees, facing the room (as they should). Had they in fact turned 180 degrees they would of course be standing back to back instead. Continuity: When Jenny is trying to piece the cake back together while talking to Brad, the amount of frosting on her fingers changes during shots. Sometimes they are completely covered, and other times there is hardly any frosting on them. Fact errors: The subtitles represent the Olympic archer's name as Kako. This common Japanese name is in fact spelled Keiko. CHAR: Melanie compares Connor to the Tin Man of The Wizard of Oz (1939), saying he was born without a heart, implying that this was the Tin Man's condition. However, the Tin Man's backstory (revealed in the book but not the film) explains that he was once an ordinary human, who had to be rebuilt as a "heartless" Tin Man after his body was destroyed in an industrial accident. FAIR: When Connor goes to his prom dance we can hear "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats setting the action after 1982. After the prom, Connor goes to with his uncle to a place where we can hear "Get Down Tonight" by KC & The Sunshine Band (released in 1975). Approximately two years later, Connor says "I got the new Poison ," and shortly thereafter, "Nothin' But a Good Time" (released in May 1988) begins playing. Therefore we can assume that the dance was in 1986 and there were no anachronisms present. |

Connor Mead: Someone once told me that the power in all relationships lies with whoever cares less, and he was right. But power isn't happiness, and I think that maybe happiness comes from caring more about people rather than less... Uncle Wayne: Whoa! Never touch a man while he's hanging a wire. Connor Mead: Love is magic comfort food for the weak and uneducated! Melanie: There's apple, bubble gum and Tandoori. I know it sounds gross, but have two of them and you won't feel your face. Uncle Wayne: Took her into the coat-check only to find she's got ten pin under her dress. Connor Mead: No! Wait... what? Uncle Wayne: So here's a couple of tips. When you first meet a girl you give her two compliments above the neck. Yeah, tell her she's got nice lips, nice eyes, nice hair... she's intelligent, her moral ethics, whatever crap comes to your mind. Then just when she begins to thinks that you're another - you know - vanilla nice guy that she can tool around with all night without getting naked... [hits his hand on bar] Uncle Wayne: you *insult* her! Flip the power dynamic and your let her know that you're here to play. Paul: These are my groomsmen. Guys, this is my brother Connor. Groomsman #1: We've heard the stories, man. Connor Mead: Oh, ok. Groomsman #2: An *honor* to be serving with you. Connor Mead: And with you. Groomsman #3: It's mice to neat you. Damn it! I blew it. Sergeant Volkom: [making his FOTB wedding reception toast in full military dress uniform] It was cold and dark, and we'd been taking fire for hours. Took an incoming mortar hit. I opened up his jacket, and his insides fell out; and I had his bloody guts in my hand. They were warm and mushy and squishy. And I push them back right into his body cavity, and willed him to live with my tears. And THAT is what true love is... hoo-ah! Connor Mead: I am begging you; don't run away. You and Paul have something so rare, so powerful! Don't chicken out now. Sandra: Don't chicken out? He cheated. Connor Mead: Get over it. It was years ago! With some slutty friend of yours! A friend incidentally, that you're not even mad at. And you know why? Because you don't actually care. You love Paul so much you forgave him the second you heard, and that's what scares you. Sandra: You have no idea how I feel. No idea! Connor Mead: Yes, I do. I've been in your shoes. You know what? It scared the hell out of me too. What if she hurt me? What if she left me? What if she died? It would have been the end of me. So I cut it short, before she ever could. And you know what? It was the biggest mistake I ever made. And you're making the same mistake right now, and I'll be goddamned if I'm going to sit by and watch. You've got to risk love Sandra! I didn't and look at me! I'm a lonely ghost of a man. It doesn't mean that you're never going to get hurt, but the pain you feel will never compare to the regret that comes from walking away from love. And from someone who's felt a lot of both trust me, regret beats pain everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. Don't run away. Don't do it. [Sandra says nothing] Now. Do you still want to get married? [Sandra looks up, smiles, and hugs him] Uncle Wayne: It's all for your own good. And what's not for your own good is for my entertainment. Vonda Volkom: Spooning is nice. Connor Mead: Yeah. But not as nice as forking. Bar Twin, Bar Twin: [Together to Connor] You slept with my sister. |
