| Plot: | Whereas her friend's thoughts are now toward the opposite sex, seventeen year old southern Californian Francie Lawrence just wants to continue with the innocent, carefree and more tomboyish pursuits in which they've always partaken. While on a manhunt at the beach, Francie's friends are interested in the young men there, but Francie becomes more interested in what those men are doing: surfing. All the surfers treat Francie like one of the guys - albeit a smaller, less experienced one - and nickname her Gidget (short for girl midget). The surfers' unofficial leader is known as the Kahuna, a thirty-something man whose sole goal in life is to travel the world looking for the perfect waves. All the younger guys aspire to Kahuna's life. Despite their less than amicable start, Gidget is ultimately taken under the reluctant wing of one of those younger guys, nicknamed Moondoggie, who comes from a privileged background but who wants to live life on his own terms, just like the Kahuna. As she spends more time with them, Gidget realizes that she is beginning to have those womanly feelings, specifically for Moondoggie. Gidget has all summer to try and get Moondoggie to notice her as a woman. If he doesn't, perhaps Jeff Matthews will, he being the college aged son of a friend of Gidget's father, who has been trying to set up the two all summer. |

Goofs
|
Continuity: When about to go snorkeling, Gidget's hair goes from being in a braid, to being down and wavy, to being in a ponytail. SYNC: When Gidget has completed her first successful surf the gang carry a surf board back to the shack. An audio reel of various ad libs plays during this part. After the Gidget learns of the "orgy" the gang disbands and the very same audio reel of ad libs is heard though it has no relevance this time around. Continuity: When Gidget gets her lesson on her new surfboard, the fin is broken in half when it rolls over in the water, but is "repaired" when she and Moondoggie reach the beach. CHAR: Gidget is told a used surf board costs $25.00. She mentions she only has $4.50 left from her allowance, meaning she only needs $20.50 more. However, when she asks her father for some money, she asks for $21.50 instead of only $20.50. |
Quotes

Gidget: Honest to goodness it's the absolute ultimate! Gidget: You better get out of the sun before you melt. Gidget: Surfing is out of this world. You can't imagine the thrill of the shooting the curl. It positively surpasses every living emotion I've ever had. Mr. Russell Lawrence: That's a man-hunter? Mrs. Dorothy Lawrence: Who did you expect? Kim Novak? Little girl at the beach: [Gidget's friends throw a beach ball at the surfers to get their attention. Moondoggie sends the little girl over to them with the beach ball and a message] The man said for me to take the toy back to the nursery! Moondoggie: Don't you find Kahuna to be a little on the lazy side? Gidget: Love makes room for fault. Gidget: Oh boy, the bigger they are the dopier they come. |
