| Plot: | Following the American invasion of Iraq in 2003 Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller and his men are charged with finding the so-called weapons of mass destruction, whose existence justified American involvement, according to the Pentagon and their man in Baghdad, Poundsgate. Veteran CIA operative Marty tells Miller that there are no weapons, it is a deception to allow the Americans to take over the country and install a puppet leader. Also suspicious of Poundsgate is Wall Street Journal reporter Lawrie Dayne, who lets slip to Miller that Poundsgate told her he had secret talks in Jordan with an important Iraqi, code-named Magellan, who told him about the weapons, though it now seems likely Magellan's true information was to the contrary. So begins a hunt for the truth. Who's playing whom? |

Revealing mistakes: When the Google results screen appears after Miller's search for information on Lawrie Dayne's WMD articles, all of the URLs are for www.twsj.com, except for one which is www.twsj.coml. This (coml) is not a valid top level domain, so the URL is not plausible in reality. Revealing mistakes: At the end of the film, CWO Miller sends an email to Wall Street Journal Writer Lawrie Dayne. In the email he writes "See attached". However, there is no visible attachment in the initial email, and when the scene cuts back to the computer screen there is a Document open and an attachment symbol within the email that was previously not there. Miscellaneous: The character of Jonathan Vaught is referred to as "Captain Vaught" in dialogue, and his uniform bears Captain's insignia, but the credits list him as "Colonel Jonathan Vaught". DATE: A Stryker ICV vehicle is quickly seen driving by in the background during the airport scene. This scene takes place in the movie well before the clip of George Bush's "Mission Accomplished" speech; which was on May 1st 2003. The Stryker, however, wasn't fielded until October/November 2003. This is at least 5 months after the Bush speech and well after the time period in which the airport scene took place. Continuity: When the white jeep with Poundstone arrives at the airport, the windshield is seen being dirty. But after the car stops and he gets out, the windshield is clear. CHAR: When Miller's team arrives at the bus station, Perry is wearing a baseball cap with an American flag on it. The flag is reversed (with the stars on the right side) like the flag patch worn on the right shoulder; hats should have the flag pointing the usual way (with the stars on the left side). CHAR: SPOILER: In the deleted scene where CW2 Miller informs Mrs. Hamza that her husband is dead, Mrs. Hamza is screaming at CW2 Miller with Freddy translating into English. At one point, she repeats the phrase "Wayn Abu Alatfahl?!?" which translates literally as "Where is the father of the children?!?", or, more loosely, "Where is the father of my children??". Freddy says in English, "You Americans have lost your honor!" |
Quotes

General Al Rawi: Your government wanted to hear the lie Mr. Miller... they wanted Saddam out and they did exactly what they had to do... this is why you are here... Miller: I thought we were all on the same side? Martin Brown: Don't be naïve... Miller: When you peddled that shit in DC, did they know it was a lie? Or did they just never bother to ask? Clark Poundstone: Okay, okay. Come on, none of this matters anymore. WMD? This doesn't matter. Miller: [grabs Poundstone angrily and forcefully] What the fuck you talking about? Of course it fucking matters! The reasons we go to war always matter! It's all that matters! It fucking matters! [first lines] Al Rawi Bodyguard: [air raid sirens] Leave that! Space is limited! Al Rawi Bodyguard: [explosions beginning] Hurry up! Hurry! We must leave now! Al Rawi Bodyguard: [chaos in the hallways] Downstairs everyone! Al Rawi Bodyguard: General... General Al Rawi: [no response] Al Rawi Bodyguard: General Al Rawi, sir. We must leave now. Al Rawi Bodyguard: Ayad, get in the car. I'm right behind you. [leaving the building] Al Rawi Bodyguard: Seyyed, send the men to the safe houses. General Al Rawi: Tell them to wait for my car. Al Rawi Bodyguard: Yes, General. [all drive off amid fire balls] Computer Dispay: [on Miller's tablet] A source has confirmed that chemical and biological weapons are stored at a facility in Al Mansour District. Martin Brown: You cannot just hand this country over to an exile no one's ever heard of, and a bunch of interns from Washington. Conway: Chief, our mission is here. Miller: You want to sit around dig holes all day, or get something done? Miller: What happened to your leg? Freddy: My leg is in Iran. Since 1987. Me too, I fight for my country. Miller: Freddy listen, you give me your information, I'm going to get you a reward for what you did today. Freddy: Award... You think I do this for money? You think I don't care about my country? I see what's happening. You don't think I see what's happening? And all the people now, they have no water, they have no electricity - you think I do this for reward? You don't think I do this for me? For my future. For my country. For all these things? Whatever you want here, I want more than you want. I want to help my country. [repeated line] Miller: I'll keep it in mind. Miller: At least tell me how it happened. How does this happ... how does someone like you write something that's not true? Tell me. Freddy: [to Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller] It is not for you to decide what happens here. |
