| Plot: | Based on the "Nurse Matilda" books by Christianna Brand comes the story of Nanny McPhee. Cedric Brown is now a widower with seven ill-behaved children who've already chased away 17 nannies. But when a mysterious voice tells Cedric to hire Nanny McPhee, she arrives at the Brown home and the kids learn to behave properly. But when Great-Aunt Adelaide tells Cedric he must be married by the end of the month or she'll separate the children, he tries to find women, but the children run them away. And Nanny McPhee tells Simon, the eldest, that he will face the consequences, so the kids go to Selma Quickly and admit what they did and ask to give their father a second chance and they will be married. Will the kids really find the perfect woman for their father? |

Continuity: Following the food fight, the amount and placing of icing on Evangeline's face changes between long shots and close-ups. Continuity: After Evangeline has left with Aunt Adelaide, Nanny McPhee enters the children's room, and as she and Chrissie walk to the bed they pass Eric's, Lily's and Tora's beds, with the bare wood floor at the center - there is no rug. However, when Nanny McPhee leaves their room the long red and white rug is at the center of the floor, between all the beds. Crew: After Nanny McPhee and Mr. Brown discuss the subjects of Evangeline's wellbeing with Aunt Adelaide and Simon's cleverness, when Nanny McPhee leaves the room the crew member's movement is seen in the mirror over the mantle. Continuity: When Evangeline shows Nanny McPhee the book she is learning to read, the book mark changes between shots as Nanny holds the book up. Continuity: When the Brown kids are making a mess in the kitchen, the bites in the large round bread that Sebastian holds change, and actually become fewer. Continuity: When Mrs. Blatherwick sits in the rocking chair in the kitchen, before the "mouse" races across the floor, in the first shot her left hand lies on her belly, with her right hand over her left, patting it gleefully. When it cuts to a close-up, her hands are in the opposite position. Continuity: When Eric, Tora and Aggy are getting ready for bed, Simon walks in and mocks, "And since when have we decided to do what we're told?" The towel to his right (viewer's left) is rumpled up, yet hangs straight in previous and following shots, then is rumpled again. Continuity: When the tarantula is crawling on Selma Quickly's hair, Cedric dives onto her. In the first shot his hands are around Selma's neck, as he is falling on top of her, but in the next shot his arms are wrapped around her waist with her arms dangling over his. Continuity: When Nanny McPhee tells Cedric, "Lesson three, to get dressed when they're told is complete," he picks up a pen and fiddles with it. In the next close-up, Cedric's hands are clasped together, and a moment later he picks up the pen and fiddles with it. SYNC: When Simon is sitting on bed, he says "We're getting rid of her tomorrow." However the audio to this line comes a few seconds before his mouth moves. Continuity: At Midgewaller & Sons, when Mr. Brown finds the card for the deceased Thadius Quickly, not only does the handwriting differ later at home, but the red swatch pinned to the card differs as well. Revealing mistakes: When Nanny McPhee seems to suddenly "appear" to Cook, after the children have gotten sick, you can see Nanny stand up from behind the counter, if you watch closely through the red bottle as the camera passes. Continuity: Simon's pajama top changes in the first bedroom scene. Continuity: When Nanny McPhee's magic is transforming everything for the wedding of Cedric Brown and Evangeline, Cedric's tan jacket appears and disappears between shots. Continuity: When Nanny McPhee entered the nursery to put the children to bed, her mole is missing before the close up SFX disappearing shot. Continuity: SPOILER: In the end Tora is holding Agatha when the shot changes to show Nanny McPhee repairing the rattle, but when the rattle is given to Agatha, she is in her basket, even though the wedding is still going on. Continuity: Just before the wedding when Ms. Quickley was talking to the children, she takes the rattle away from Aggie and breaks it in half with the handle in her right hand. I the next shot, the broken pieces have switched places and the handle is in her left hand. Then when there are two pieces not zoomed in, the handle has returned to the right hand. Continuity: During the food fight scene, Aunt Adelaide gets a slice of cake fired at her face, leaving a thick layer of light green color. Then next scene, Aunt Adelaide is walking away, and the frosting is a dark green color. Continuity: Throughout most of the movie, Sebastian is missing one of his front teeth. However, in the scene where he's hiding behind one of the chairs while his father and Mrs. Quickly have tea, his missing tooth has grown most of the way back in. Later in the movie, the tooth is missing again. Continuity: SPOILER: At the wedding, when the characters are having a food fight, the bride and groom figurines on top of the wedding cake are knocked off. In the next shot they are standing back on the cake. Continuity: When Cedrick starts to plump the cushion for Mrs quickly, in the tea scene,it changes from a brown tapestry cushion to a bright yellow cushion. |

Nanny McPhee: When you need me, but do not want me, then I will stay. When you want me, but do not need me, then I have to go. Nanny McPhee: There is something you should understand about the way I work. When you need me but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me but no longer need me, then I have to go. It's rather sad, really, but there it is. [Nanny McPhee turns around to walk out of the room, but stops once she hears Simon] Simon Brown: We will never want you! Nanny McPhee: Then I will never go. Mrs. Blatherwick: [repeatedly, holding up a piece of paper and pointing to it, referring to the children not being allowed inside the kitchen] I have it in writin'. Eliza Brown: [regarding the rattle that she has just taken from the baby] It was our mother's rattle. Give it back! Mrs. Quickly: I'm your mother now. [snaps rattle in half] Great Aunt Adelaide: Incest! Simon Brown: I NEVER say "please"! [repeated line] Nanny McPhee: I did knock. [Repeated line] Nanny McPhee: The person you need is Nanny McPhee. Mr. Brown: Nanny McPhee! Now she can't take the donkey, so what have you done? Nanny McPhee: I have done nothing, sir. The children have decided amongst themselves. Mr. Brown: Decided what? Great Aunt Adelaide: [off in distance] There you are, my dear. Mr. Brown: Not little Chrissy. [runs from the house] Chrissy! Great Aunt Adelaide: [in the carriage] Now my dear, tell me your name. Mr. Brown: [bolts down the road] Chrissy! Nanny McPhee: Tell me your name. Mr. Brown: [in the forest] Chrissy! Great Aunt Adelaide: Sit up straight, and tell me your name. Mr. Brown: [the carriage fades in the distance] NO! Christianna! Christianna: Papa! Papa! [races into her father's arms and hugs him] Mr. Brown: Oh thank... [the other children run up to him] all of you? Oh... Then who is? Evangeline: [raises head for Aunt Adelaide to see] Evangeline... My name is Evangeline. [Simon reaches out to shake Nanny Mcphee's hand, introducing himself] Simon Brown: Oglington Fartworthy. Mrs. Quickly: O, I do love my weddings! [repeated line] Nanny McPhee: Hmm... Nanny McPhee: How's the reading coming along? Evangeline: Oh... all right. I still haven't gotten to the end of the story, though. Nanny McPhee: There's no need. You are the end of the story. Eric Brown: The nanny is a witch. [repeated line given after making a sudden appearance] Nanny McPhee: I did knock. Great Aunt Adelaide: If there's one thing I won't stand for, it's loose vowels! Mr. Brown: [monologue] I was confident that there was nothing they could do to upset her. Nanny Whetstone: [charges into the mortuary screaming] THEY'VE EATEN THE BABY! Mr. Brown: [monologue] Except that. Narrator: Hello. Unfortunately, we must start the story with an empty chair. If it wasn't empty, however, we wouldn't have a story. But, it is, and we do, so we must tell it. Tora: [descussing the mishaps at the tea with their father] And the worms in the sandwiches. Sebastian: That was my idea!... I mean, my fault. Lily: Evangeline, do you love Papa? Evangeline: Of course not! I know my place. That wouldn't be right. I mean... yes. Lily: Papa, do you love Evangeline? Mr. Brown: What are you saying? That- that would be totally improper. I mean a thing like that could- could never happen. I mean, obviously... yes. Nanny McPhee: [after using a winking donkey to rescue the children from their Great Aunt] One of you is going to have to go and it can't be the donkey. Nanny McPhee: Please, Mr. Brown, go back to your newspaper. Evangeline: Oh, dry up, you old trout. This is the most fun I've had in weeks. Baby Agatha: Beehive! Mr. Brown: It wasn't really the baby they were eating. It was a chicken, actually. Mr. Brown: The truth is, I can't support my own family. I never have been able to. There were so many of you... but you were all so delicious. Simon Brown: You must feel at such a disadvantage, Nanny McPhee. Nanny McPhee: In what way? Simon Brown: We know your name... but you don't know ours. [holds out hand] Simon Brown: Pleased to make your acquantence, I'm Oglinton Fartworthy. [Children giggle whilst making farty noises] Nanny McPhee: [Shakes Simon's hand] How d'you do. Simon Brown: That's F-A-R-T, Fartworthy. Tora: Booger McHorsefanny. Lily: Knickers O'Muffin. Eric Brown: Sandra. Christianna: Bum. Sebastian: I'm Bum! Christianna: Oh, Bosoms. [Children giggle out loud] Baby Agatha: Bum. Christianna: You can't be Bum, Aggie! Sebastian's Bum. You're Poop. Baby Agatha: Poop Bum. Sebastian: You can't be Poop and Bum! Great Aunt Adelaide: I shall relieve you of one of your children and give it a home with me at Stitch Manor... As for your fortunate daughter - for it must be a girl and not one of those other things... Mr. Brown: I must marry Quickly. [picks up a violin] Mr. Brown: Simon, cricket practice. Eric Brown: BANG goes that theory. Tora: [deciding who will go with their great-aunt] Well, I'm the eldest girl. I'll go. Lily: No. I've always known I was destined for tragedy. I'll go. Baby Agatha: Aggy go. Eric Brown: Don't be silly, Aggy. You're not even a whole girl yet. Christianna: No. She wanted me. I'll go. Sebastian: You can't all go. Mrs. Quickly: [to the children] There's only one thing men want. It's no wonder there are so many of you. Mr. Brown: Milk? Great Aunt Adelaide: Definitely not! Most unhealthy! Mr. Brown: Sugar? Great Aunt Adelaide: Six, if you please. Mr. Brown: Six... [last lines] Nanny McPhee: There is something you should understand about the way I work: When you need me, but do not want me,then I will stay. When you want me, but no longer need me, then I have to go. Mr. Brown: I can't support my own family. I never have been able to. There are so many of you. But You're all so delicious. When Aggy came along and your mother was so ill, I said to her, "I think we will have to stop now, dear," and she said... She said, "I know." Simon Brown: [Nanny McPhee appears only after he taps her wand into the ground, he nervously quotes her] I-I *did* knock... Nanny McPhee: I know. I heard you. |
