| Plot: | Las Vegas showroom magician Cris Johnson has a secret which torments him: he can see a few minutes into the future. Sick of the examinations he underwent as a child and the interest of the government and medical establishment in his power, he lies low under an assumed name in Vegas, performing cheap tricks and living off small-time gambling "winnings." But when a terrorist group threatens to detonate a nuclear device in Los Angeles, government agent Callie Ferris must use all her wiles to capture Cris and convince him to help her stop the cataclysm. |

GEOG: Early in the film Johnson walks into a casino off of Fremont street in the heart of Las Vegas. Upon exiting the casino later, however, he finds himself just off the Las Vegas Strip across from Paris Hotel and Casino approximately 2 ½ miles away from Fremont street. Continuity: SPOILER: After the sniper "shoots" Cris, the medium shots show him holding a high-end cell phone, but in the close-up shot the phone is a very cheap Nokia 1100. Continuity: Jessica Biel's earrings change from pearl studs in the scene in the diner to hoops with dangles in the car, then back to studs in the village. GEOG: The characters visit the Indian village of Supai, Arizona, and two of the associated waterfalls, Havasu and Mooney. In the film it appears that they park their car and walk to these locations in regular street clothes and very quickly. In actuality the village of Supai is 8 miles (through the desert) from the parking lot. Havasu falls is another 2 miles beyond that and Mooney falls is 2 more miles plus a nearly straight vertical climb of 150-200 feet to the bottom. Accomplishing this trip, at the very least, would require carrying a water supply and wearing appropriate boots and clothing. Fact errors: While flying in a black-hawk helicopter with the doors open, FBI agents speak to one another casually as though the overwhelming noise of the wind and rotors is non-existent. Continuity: At the beginning of the film, Johnson was sitting in a diner and checked his watch on his left wrist. A moment later, when he raised his right hand to wipe sweat on his forehead, there was another watch on his right wrist. Fact errors: The trail head to Havasupai is a dirt area the size of a football field with only a few hitching posts and a helicopter pad. There are not any buildings that look like the one portrayed in the movie. Continuity: When Johnson forsees the conversation with the FBI agent in his garage, the conversation lasts three minutes. Since the conversation never really happens, and he can only see two minutes into the future, it wouldn't have worked. Continuity: After Cris produces a rose for Liz in the motel room, she is holding it in her right hand. When she embraces him, the rose is behind his back. When the scene cuts to closeup, her hand with the rose in it is up near Cris' face. Fact errors: When Callie has a visitor at the indoor firing range, the range master is heard announcing a cease-fire for the entire range and then Callie removes her ear protection. She then proceeds to fire several shots in an act of bravado without ear protection for her guest and her, and in gross violation of the range orders meant to protect other shooters. Revealing mistakes: The Golden Nugget on Freemont Street is clearly standing in for the fictional Mystique Casino in the film. When Cris enters the casino, the large 'G' and 'N' are visible on the doors and a plaque with the Golden Nugget logo can be seen on the wall. CHAR: After Cris enters the casino, he states in the voice-over narration that he uses his power to gamble but does it in a small way to go unnoticed. He is then shown betting a stack of four yellow chips on a blackjack hand. In Las Vegas, yellow chips have a value of $1000 apiece, meaning he is betting four thousand a hand - that kind of action will get you noticed. Fact errors: When Cris is watching television to determine the time and place of the explosion, a news anchor describes a hurricane in the Atlantic as an "F-3" storm. The Fujita Scale is used to rate the intensity of tornadoes. Hurricanes are classified using the Saffir-Simpson scale. A hurricane of that strength would properly be called a Category 3 storm. GEOG: Early scene in which Mr. Roybal head of security is met by the two "Nevada Gaming commission officers" this takes place on the roof of a parking structure in which the camera view shows the Stratosphere tower over the left shoulder of the agent and another casino with lights on the roof over his right. There is no such parking structure and as such the Stratosphere tower and casino are completely by themselves on the strip with a good long walk to the Sands being the closest casino and even its 3 or so blocks away. Continuity: During the scene when Chris and the agents are walking along the catwalk, just prior to Chris's precognition of getting shot by a sniper from behind them: As Chris and the FBI agents are about to turn 90 degrees left on the catwalk, there is a cylindrical duct of some kind behind them with a white tarp covering the end. As they walk past it, the tarp gets sucked down and pulled out of sight - possibly a film crew action, or just part of what the machinery is being portrayed to do. However, after his precognition of getting shot, the scene rewinds to their approach on the catwalk, but this time, the white tarp at the end of the tubing does not get sucked in, it remains covering the end of the duct. GEOG: When Agent Ferris explains Frank Cadillac's predicament (stolen vehicle, attempted armed robbery) she tells him he could end up in Folsum State Prison. Folsum is a California prison, the crimes were committed in Nevada. Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: The terrorists communicate in French and speak English with a French accent. But when the sniper misses his shot, he curses in Serbian. CHAR: Nicolas Cage's character tells a joke about a "Zen master" ordering a hot dog. Cage says, "he said he'd have 'one with everything.'" The punch line should be "make me one with everything." Cage's wording misses the point (and the expression on Jessica Biel's face suggests she misses the point too). Fact errors: The sniper twice tries to make a cell phone call. Both times he gets three tones and a recorded message telling him, "Your call cannot be completed as dialed. Check the number and dial again." Between attempts his phone's LCD reports "NO SERVICE" because previously all cell service was shut down. Such recordings can only come from the service; they're not embedded in every handset. GEOG: As Chris and Liz arrive at the Indian village, Liz announces it is the "Havasupai Reservation". The movie makes no further effort to specifically define where or what the location is. Since the Havasupai Reservation consists of 189,000 acres (approximately 295 sq miles) and has several waterfalls throughout, the audience is led to believe that it is a nondescript, perhaps even fictitious location. Since the movie makes no specific identification of this location, other than the Havasupai Reservation, any claims made regarding errors in geography (the village of Supai, the trail head to Havasupai and/or Havasu Falls among others) are unfounded. Continuity: The precog of Callie talking to Cris in the garage lasts longer than 2 minutes when the film clearly states that 2 minutes is the exact limit. Continuity: When Cris gets shot by the sniper, his arm position when he lays down changes position between shots. Continuity: When Cris wakes up in bed with Liz at the end of the movie, there is no sunlight on Liz's hair from the shot looking down on the bed but when it switches angles, there is sunlight in her hair. |

Callie Ferris: Tell me what just happened. What did you see? Cris Johnson: If I do what you want, you'll keep me in this chair forever. Liz: You can see things before they happen? Cris Johnson: Only my future... except with you. I saw far beyond anything I'd ever seen before. You need to get away from here. Callie Ferris: I believe that the urgency of this situation compels the use of any and all resources to obtain Cris Johnson. Cris Johnson: I've seen every possible ending. None of them are good for you. Liz: I don't want you to die. Cris Johnson: It happened. It just hasn't happened yet. Cris Johnson: There's an Italian painter, named Carlotti, and he uh, ahem, defined beauty. He said it was the summation of the parts working together in such a way that nothing needed to be added, taken away or altered, and that's you. You're beautiful. Liz: Wow. Cris Johnson: I like rain. Liz: I like rain, too. Cris Johnson: Here is the thing about the future. Every time you look at, it changes, because you looked at it, and that changes everything else. Cris Johnson: You have one way out of this. [Mr. Smith holds up the detonator; Ferris shoots it out of his hand] Cris Johnson: That wasn't it. Cris Johnson: [has a premonition of them sharing a kiss] Wow. That was incredible. Liz: What was? Cris Johnson: This. [kisses her] Cris Johnson: It may be a week, or a month, but if you can wait, I will find you. Cris Johnson: Every once in a while what we think is magic is the real deal hiding behind a $50.00 trick, because the alternative is impossible for others to live with. Wisdom: I need actionable intelligence, not paranormals and bullshit magicians. Callie Ferris: With all due respect, sir, this bullshit magician's shown a pattern of advanced awareness that is statistically impossible. You let me bring him in and you'll get what you want. Cris Johnson: Did you hear about the zen monk who ordered a hot dog? He said he had one with everything [last lines] Callie Ferris: Ready? Cris Johnson: Yeah. [first lines] Emcee: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the man who knows what you're going to do before you do it. The amazing Frank Cadillac! Cris Johnson: I have a small magic act back in Vegas. The Frank Cadillac Show. Liz: I thought your name was Cris. Cris Johnson: It is. Frank Cadillac is my stage name. Liz: How'd you come up with that? Cris Johnson: I picked two things I really like and put the together. Frankenstein and Cadillacs. Callie Ferris: Don't do it. Cris Johnson: I already have. Cris Johnson: It helps if you don't speak right now. Cavanaugh: What about intel? Callie Ferris: We don't need it we have him. Callie Ferris: Let's talk about something hard. A stolen nuclear munition is being smuggled into the United States, or may, in fact, already be here. I want you to look ahead and tell me where it's going to be deployed. Cris Johnson: Uh... I think you've got the wrong guy. It's a magic act. Callie Ferris: You going to stick with that story? Because millions of lives are at risk and you could, maybe, prevent a major catastrophe. On a practical note, we're standing in front of a stolen vehicle and you're wanted for assault involving a weapon at the casino. Cris Johnson: All right, that was an accident. He had a gun. He was going to shoot two people. Callie Ferris: Yeah? How'd you know that? No good deed goes unpunished, does it? I can fix your legal problems, buddy, but you've got to step up. Otherwise, your next magic show is going to be at Folsom State Prison. Cris Johnson: It's ironic, but people like you who try to help have been torturing me, in the full sense of the word, since I was three years old. What did they call it? Oh, yeah. Observed play therapy. Featuring, the marathon 36-hour, can-you-guess-the-next-flash-card game. So, please, leave me alone and let me live some semblance of a normal life. Callie Ferris: I'd love to indulge your feelings, but I am dealing with a slightly larger picture right now. Now you can exercise your responsibility to help your fellow man or I will exercise that responsibility for you. Cris Johnson: [Chris knows he's about to be punched by Liz's stalker. Gritting his teeth] Incoming. [gets punched in the face] Cris Johnson: [to agent who keeps interrupting him while he's trying to brief the team] if you will SHUT UP now, and do EXACTLY what I tell you to do, I'll keep you alive. |
