| Plot: | Is there solace in revenge? Bond and "M" sniff a shadowy international network of power and corruption reaping billions. As Bond pursues the agents of an assassination attempt on "M," all roads lead to Dominic Greene, a world-renowned developer of green technology. Greene, a nasty piece of work, is intent on securing a barren area of Bolivia in exchange for assisting a strongman stage a coup there. The CIA looks the other way, and only Bond, with help from a retired spy and from a mysterious beauty, stands in Greene's way. "M" wonders if she can trust Bond, or if vengeance possesses him. Beyond that, can anyone drawn to Bond live to tell the tale? |

Continuity: In the scene where Bond is talking to Mathis at his villa, Mathis' watch moves between scenes. At the start of the sequence, his watch is facing away from the bottom of his wrist. By the end of the scene, it has moved to a more conventional position. Fact errors: While in Austria you see two license plates with 4 letters before the state emblem. In reality, all Austrian license plates have a maximum of 2 Letters before the state emblem. The emblem shown was the correct one for the state that Bregenz is in, but that letter combination wouldn't be possible. Continuity: During the first meeting with M, James Bond's shirt collar changes position: at first it's inside his jacket lapel, then it moves outside, and then back inside without him fixing it. Revealing mistakes: In the Siena roof chase sequence, both Bond and Mitchell are wearing black running shoes, whilst just before they were both wearing black suit shoes. Continuity: In the scene when Bond arrives back in Siena and M shows him the file containing the pictures of Vesper's boyfriend the file is open in order for Bond to steal a photograph and is then untouched until the end of the scene, when he pushes the file back across the table and it is already closed. Continuity: After racing through the Palio of Sienna, Mitchell and Bond are on the roofs of the buildings surrounding the Piazza Del Campo. They chase for some time. A couple of shots later, there is a view from the spot where they are to the city and the tower "Torre Del Mangia" is half the city away. That's 2 miles in 20 seconds. CHAR: Bond reads the registration of the private plane in Haiti to MI6 as G-0(ZERO)***. Its a British registered plane and would read G-O(letter). Continuity: The scene where Camille is putting together her gun, right after that Bond has his hand on her shoulder, the next camera shot its at his side, the next camera shot its back on her shoulder. FAIR: In the opening credits sequence, there is side-view close-up of a Walther PPK being fired in slow motion. The slide begins to move back before the hammer strikes the firing pin. This title sequence takes place in fantasy--sand doesn't turn into women either. GEOG: James Bond is clearly not in Port-Au-Prince. The harbor is all wrong, there are no luxury hotels or home on the bay and the general conditions of the building are much better than in Haiti's capital. This was actually Colon, Panama, on the Atlantic coast. Continuity: Heavy turbulence occur during the flight to Bregenz. In the single shot of Dominic Greene the water in the vase of white tulips is quite shaky. In the wide shot one can see that the water in the vase is not moving at all, before cutting back to the single shot with the moving water. CHAR: At the Grand Andean Hotel in Bolivia (filmed in Colon, Panama), when Bond tips the bellboy in the hotel room, he says "Grazie" instead of "Gracias". Grazie is Italian which is not commonly spoken in either country. Continuity: Noticeable, obvious piece of white lint on Bond's right shoulder during the conversation at villa appears and disappears. Continuity: SPOILER: Bond has a bloodstain on his shirt when Mathis is dying in his arms. After Mathis dies and Bond disposes of the body, his shirt has no bloodstain on the lower front. Immediately after, when Bond is renting the plane, the bloodstain is back. Revealing mistakes: In the scene where Dominic Greene hugs Camille while standing at the edge of the shore, you can see one part of Camille's scar peeling off. Continuity: SPOILER: After Bond puts Mathis' body in the dumpster, Mathis' left hand is hanging over the edge of the dumpster. In the next shot when Bond is going through his wallet, his hand is no longer hanging over the edge. In the following overhead shot of Mathis, his hand is once again hanging over the edge of the dumpster. Continuity: Dominic Greene boards a Bombardier Challenger 600 business jet in Haiti to fly to Bregenz. The plane one sees pulling up the ramp in Austria is a Learjet 45 or 55. Fact errors: James Bond gets told on the phone that Greene's biz-jet is on a private charter to Bregenz, Austria, where he seems to land. However, Bregenz itself has no airport. Only St. Gallen-Altenrhein and Friedrichshafen are nearby (10 and 30 km, respectively). London Farnborough Airport was used for this scene. Continuity: SPOILER: When Mathis is dying in Bond's arms, the amount of blood on Bond's right hand changes between the three different shots, from very little in the long shot, to none on his thumb, to blood covering his whole hand in the close-up. Continuity: During the boat chase scene, both Bond's and Camille's hair alternates between wet and dry several times. FAIR: Bond uses a Walther PPK pistol throughout the movie. If Quantum of Solace is set immediately after Casino Royale (2006), Bond would still be using a Beretta, as Q Branch is yet to have assigned Bond the Walther PPK. However, there is no reason an MI6 armorer could not have switched Bond from his previous Walther P99 to the PPK before he shoots Mr White at the end of Casino Royale. We do not see his sidearm, only the H&K UMP he uses to kneecap White (which he still has in Quantum). He could have had said PPK on him the whole time. GEOG: It is clear that the outset of Bolivia was filmed in several different countries. Whereas in La Paz people speak with what appears to be a Mexican accent, people in the desert such as the desert hotel waitress and the plane owner speak with a Chilean accent. The Bolivian scenes were filmed in the Atacama Desert,Chile, Colon,Panama and the Baja Peninsula,Mexico. FAIR: It would be highly unlikely that in any country René Mathis could be charged, tried, acquitted and compensated in the time between the two films. However, there is no indication of how much time has elapsed between Bond getting Vesper's text message with Mr. White's phone number and Bond finally tracking him down. Also, Mathis was taken into MI6 custody for interrogation, not for trial. FAIR: Though the film is seen to follow on almost immediately after the events of Casino Royale (2006) and yet things such as M's office at MI6 HQ are completely different, it is clear than the final scenes of the previous film take place some considerable time after Bond finds Vesper's clue to lead him to Mr White. M has come to Italy and the sting has been set up, with a new Aston Martin and the safehouse in Siena, and White's extreme rendition arranged. Continuity: At the end of Casino Royale (2006), Bond was wearing a light-blue shirt and a three-piece suit when he shot Mr. White in the leg. At the beginning of Quantum of Solace, his shirt is white and his waistcoat has disappeared, and in fact both he and White seems to be in slightly different suits. If the events of Quantum of Solace occur an hour after those of Casino Royale, it would mean that both had an inexplicable clothing change just before the car chase. (In fact, this continuity error betrays the fact that the films' costumiers are different: Brioni provided suits before, but for this film it is Tom Ford.) Continuity: Bond gets Elvis' mobile number and the company name Greene Planet by tricking him with a Universal Exports business card - the company's logo comes up on Bond's phone when Elvis tries the number. When Bond namechecks Dominic Green with MI6 not long after, however, having got this name from Camille, the name 'Greene Planet' seems to mean nothing to him, and he does not confirm Greene's identity until he receives an image. Continuity: In the opening chase, Bond's car door is torn off, but as it spins around not only is the door there, but there isn't a scratch on the driver's side. Continuity: While talking face-to-face with Bond on the plane, Mathis has loose strands of hair that fall over his forehead and are suddenly smoothed between shots. Continuity: When Camille is talking with Greene while looking at the dead geologist, she wraps her arms around Greene's neck. Seen from behind, her arms are hanging at her sides, then back around his neck in the closeup. Fact errors: During the aircraft "chase" scene the left engine of the C47/DC3 is shot out. Bond then sets both engines to full power and pulls back on the yoke to initiate a climb. Being that the left engine is the "Critical Engine" for the C47/DC3 Bond's course of action would not have resulted in a climb, but instead resulted in the C47/DC3 performing a roll to the left onto it's back and most likely crashing. Critical Engine Definition per the FAA: The engine whose failure would most adversely affect the airplane's performance or handling qualities is the critical engine. On any airplane with both engines rotating clockwise the left engine is critical. Aerodynamically, this is due to asymmetrical thrust or "P" factor. The center of thrust is offset to the right side of the propeller hub, creating a greater distance (ARM) from the longitudinal axis to the thrust line of the right engine. This longer arm in turn creates a greater yawing moment, and with rudder deflection fixed at its maximum value, airplane speed must be higher to overcome the effects of "P" factor. Failure of the left engine, therefore, creates the more "critical" situation (need for higher Vmc) Continuity: When Bond kicks Greene out the SUV and tosses him a can of motor oil, it lands just passed his feet but slightly behind him. In the next scene the motor oil is now in front of his feet. Continuity: In the opening chase, Bond's car and the villain's cars are black. In the quarry, right after the police's car is falling and crosses the track, we briefly see two white cars (or so covered in dust that they are uniformly white). A second after, they are black again (or with much less dust). Continuity: It's less than a day between the boat chase and the party in Austria. Bond suffers three large cuts on his forehead from the boat chase. In Austria, there are no signs of the cuts. Continuity: SPOILER: During the burning compound scene, Mr. Green's sidekick Elvis is standing with gun drawn poised to shoot Bond. When a fuel cell explodes we see him standing as the semi transparent flame hits him. For a few frames it appears his clothes have blown off but in the reflection on the wall near him, the pants are still on. FAIR: M tells Bond that a DNA analysis has been done on a lock of hair. Strictly speaking, locks of hair are cut off and do not contain the hair follicle which is preferable for DNA analysis. However, it is possible to get DNA from hair samples that lack roots, although it takes more time and effort. It is likely that the case was given priority to facilitate the effort. CHAR: The audience for the Bregenz opera are dressed formally, with the major cast in tuxedos. In reality, patrons who attend the Bregenz opera are dressed casually. CHAR: The fire notice on the inside of the door in the hotel in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, says "En case d'incindie". The correct French is "En cas d'incendie". CHAR: Bond goes through a lot of trouble rescuing Camille in Port-au-Prince, only to give her body away to strangers as soon as they get ashore, despite her having the valuable information he needs. Continuity: In the opening car chase sequence, the Carabinieri give chase in a Landrover 110, however, after it crashes into the building and falls of the cliff you can quite clearly see it has been swapped for a Defender 90. Continuity: During the opening car chase it is clear that this is filmed on the northern part of Lake Garda through the mountain passes and tunnels. After the quarry scene Bond is now suddenly driving into Sienna which happens to be around 150 miles from Verona, Lake Garda's main City location. |

M: Find Bond! James Bond: How long have I got? Felix Leiter: Thirty seconds. James Bond: That doesn't give us a lot of time... M: This is about trust. You said you weren't motivated by revenge. James Bond: I am motivated by my duty. M: No... I think you're so blinded by inconsolable rage that you don't care who you hurt. When you can't tell your friends from your enemies, it's time to go. M: It'd be a pretty cold bastard who didn't want revenge for the death of someone he loved. Felix Leiter: You know who Greene is and you want to put us in bed with him. Gregg Beam: Yeah, you're right. We should just deal with nice people. James Bond: [Bond is holding Yusef and Corinne at gunpoint] *Sit down!* [they both sit] James Bond: [looking at Corinne] You're Canadian...? You work in Canadian intelligence? Corinne: [doesn't answer] James Bond: That's all right... I know you do. And knowing this man, you likely have access to some very sensitive material that you're going to be forced to give up. His life will be threatened... and because you love him, you won't hesitate. [pauses] James Bond: That's a beautiful necklace. Did he give it to you? Corinne: [still doesn't answer] James Bond: [showing her Vesper's necklace] I have one just like it. He gave it to a friend of mine... someone very close to me. Your name is...? Corinne: Corinne. James Bond: Corinne... Corinne, I suggest you leave now. You contact your people, and you tell them to check their seals. They have a leak. Do it now, please. This man and I have some unfinished business. Corinne: [softly, as she leaves] Thank you. Dominic Greene: My friends call me Dominic. James Bond: I'm sure they do. Dominic Greene: [regarding James Bond] Everything he touches withers and dies. Camille: You lost somebody? James Bond: I did. Camille: You catch who ever did it? James Bond: No, not yet. Camille: Tell me when you do, I'd like to know how it feels... M: Who the hell is this organisation Bond? How can they be everywhere and we know nothing about them! Mathis: [speaks to Bond regarding Vesper] She would have done anything for you... forgive her, forgive yourself. Dominic Greene: [Speaks into the earpiece] This is the world's most precious resource, we need to control as much of it as we can. [last lines] M: Bond, I need you back. James Bond: I never left. Mr. White: [after his associates have fled the opera house] I guess Tosca isn't for everyone. James Bond: [Interrupting the opera house conversation] Can I offer an opinion? I really think you people should find a better place to meet. James Bond: [to Camille] Take a deep breath, you only got one shot, make it count. James Bond: [at a dirty, small motel] What are we doing? Strawberry Fields: We're teachers on sabbatical. This fits our cover. James Bond: No it doesn't. I'd rather stay at a morgue. Come on. [they go to a nicer hotel] James Bond: [to the hotel receptionist] Hello. We're teachers on sabbatical and we've just won the lottery. Camille: [Regarding Bond] There is something horribly efficient about you. M: Ask him about Slate. Tanner: She wants to know about Slate. James Bond: Slate was a dead end. Tanner: He says it was a dead end. M: Damn it! He killed him. James Bond: I don't think the dead care about vengeance. Mathis: [to James Bond] I was sorry to hear about Vesper. I think she loved you. M: If you could avoid killing every possible lead, it would be deeply appreciated. James Bond: I'll do my best. M: I've heard that before. M: When someone says "We've got people everywhere", you expect it to be hyperbole! Lots of people say that. Florists use that expression. It doesn't mean that they've got somebody working for them inside the bloody room! Strawberry Fields: Mr. Bond, my name is Fields. I'm from the consulate. James Bond: Of course you are. And what do you do at the consulate Fields? Strawberry Fields: That's not important. My orders are to turn you around and put you on the first plane to London. James Bond: [Walking past her] Do those orders include my friend Mathis? Strawberry Fields: [to Mathis] I'm sorry, I don't know who you are. James Bond: [to Mathis] You see? You've been gone for such a short time and you're already forgotten. Mathis: You're just saying that to hurt me. Strawberry Fields: [Following Bond out] Mr. Bond, these orders come from the highest possible authority. James Bond: Taxi! Fields, when is the next flight to London? Strawberry Fields: Tomorrow morning. James Bond: Well then, we have all night. Strawberry Fields: If you attempt to flee I will arrest you, drop you off at the jail and take you to the plane in chains, understand? James Bond: [Opening the taxi door] Perfectly. After you. Mathis: I think she has handcuffs. James Bond: I hope so. Camille: [notices they are being followed] Friend of yours? James Bond: I have no friends. Felix Leiter: James, move your ass! Dominic Greene: There is nothing that makes me more uncomfortable than friends talking behind my back. Feels like... ants under my skin. Camille: You sent someone to kill me? Dominic Greene: Please don't talk to me like I'm stupid... It's unattractive. M: You killed a man in Brigenz. James Bond: I did my best not to. M: You shot him in cold blood and threw him off a roof. I would hardly call that showing restraint! James Bond: Are you going to tell us who you work for? Mr. White: I was always very interested to meet you. I heard so much about you from Vesper. The real shame is, if she hadn't killed herself we would've had you too. M: The Americans are gonna be none too pleased. James Bond: I promised them Le Chiffre and they got him. M: They got his body. James Bond: Well, if they wanted his soul, they should have made a deal with a priest. [drags Mr. White onto an interrogation chair] James Bond: Don't bleed to death. Camille: So, what's your interest in Greene? James Bond: Among other things, he tried to kill a friend of mine. Camille: A woman? James Bond: Yes. But it's not what you think. Camille: Your mother? James Bond: She likes to think so. Mr. White: The first thing you should know about us is... we have people everywhere. James Bond: You know I was just wondering what South America would look like if nobody gave a damn about coke or communism. It always impressed me the way you boys would carve this place up. Felix Leiter: I'll take that as a compliment coming from a Brit. [first lines] James Bond: It's time to get out. Mathis: I have pills for everything. Some make you taller... some make you forget. Yusef: [Bond is holding him at gunpoint] Please. Make it quick. [Bond shows up for his rendezvous with Camille having just survived a knife-fight] Camille: You're late! James Bond: Got pulled into a meeting. James Bond: They say you're judged by the strength of your enemies. Dominic Greene: you should know something about me and the people i work with. We deal with the left and the right, dictators or liberators. If the current president had been more agreeable, I wouldn't be talking to you. So if you decide not to sign, you'll wake up with your balls in your mouth and your willing replacement standing over you... if you doubt that, then shoot me, take that money and have a good night's sleep. James Bond: [chucks a can of motor oil at Greene's feet] I bet you make it 20 miles before you consider drinking that. [Bond gets in the car and drives away, leaving Greene stranded in the middle of the desert] Goodbye, Mr. Greene. |
