Revealing mistakes: Although the aircraft carrier is identified as the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) early in the movie, and initial action is indeed on the Lincoln, subsequent scenes are on both the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) and the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) as indicated by the large "68" and "70" on the flight deck and island structure. Miscellaneous: Lt. Wade's punch put co-ords are given as 38 54 45N, by 127 31 22E. However, this point is about 40 to 50 miles from the Korean border. No the 12.2 miles that EDI states later on. Fact errors: In the sniper shot fired by the North Korean at Lt Wade, the sound of the gunshot is heard before it seen penetrating her. The gunshot sound would have been heard after the bullet hit it's mark, since the scene is shown from the opposite side of the cliffs from where the shot was fired. Part of a gunshot sound is the sonic boom of a bullet exceeding the speed of the sound. Revealing mistakes: The planes were flying at 15' in altitude over rice paddies and water at very high speeds. The force of the air being compressed under the jet would have made major disturbances in the water - yet nothing happened to the terrain. A few seconds later, they flew over building and ripped the roof tiles off. GEOG: The USS Abraham Lincoln is located in the Philippine Sea. The three Talons and the EDI fly westwards, to Myanmar. It is daylight in the Philippine Sea but nighttime in Myanmar. Although it is conceivable that they were flying from dawn westwards to where it was still just before dawn, there were a lot of people and traffic on the street, which would have indicated that it was early evening in Myanmar. CHAR: An elite combatant would not fire a missile in a close-quarters situation, especially when other weapons are available. Anyone with just moderate training would know how to choose the right weapon for the right job. CHAR: Survival training must not have been a high priority for these elite pilots. Breaking radio silence over enemy territory to relay unimportant information and drawing attention to oneself while attempting to evade are just a couple of the errors these aviators make. SYNC: When the UCAV is first taken for a test run, Lt. Ben Gannon is heard to say "Let the schoolin' begin!" right before the fighters break formation, yet on the screens in the command center showing facial shots of each pilot you can clearly see his mouth is not moving. GEOG: Kyrgystan is on border of China and Pakistan. Based on geography, the closest friendly base is in Turkey, which is to the WEST. The carrier was in the Phillipine Sea, which is to the SOUTH. They chased EDI all over the place without entering Russian Airspace (to the east). Then Wade got fragged and then Gannon ordered her "straight back to the boat [carrier]". So why did Wade's Talon 2 break up over North Korea, which is FAR to the EAST? Fact errors: When the Talons are about to get catapulted off the Lincoln early in the movie, one is shown with the yellow chocks around the wheels, and steel chains and hooks still attached holding it down to the deck to prevent movement. This is not the standard configuration for a jet just seconds from being catapulted airborne. |

EDI: Talon 3, leave me alone. Lt. Henry Purcell: Leave you alone? I'm trying to help you! Lt. Kara Wade: [as Wade, Gannon, and Purcell are running out to their jets] I'm out first, boys. Lt. Henry Purcell: I'm on that ass! Lt. Kara Wade: [Standing to the right side of the exit hatch to let Purcell and Gannon past her] After you, ladies. [Gannon strokes under her chin and she playfully snaps her jaw back at him] Lt. Ben Gannon: Captain Marshfield? EDI, did you just turn off Captain Marshfield? EDI: [brief pause] There was nothing left to say. Capt. George Cummings: [as Purcell turns around in shock over getting a fourth wingman in the squadron] What's the problem, Purcell? You look like you just been hit in the gut. Lt. Henry Purcell: Well, for one, Captain, we've been flying together for a long time, and it's good; but FOUR is an unlucky number. Capt. George Cummings: Unlucky? Lt. Henry Purcell: Yeah! It's not a prime number. See, prime numbers can only be divided by one or itself. THREE is a prime number. The Holy Trinity? The thesis and antithesis that come together to form the synthesis... Capt. George Cummings: Look! This is not a seminar on metaphysics, son. This is the U.S. Navy. Now we ship out Wednesday at oh five hundred. Dismissed. Lt. Henry Purcell: Okay. IF he'd let me finish I was gonna say Three's Company, Three Stooges, Three Musketeers, three-peat, three strikes you're out, "Three Times a Lady". Lt. Kara Wade: Three dimensions? Lt. Henry Purcell: Three Blind Mice. Lt. Ben Gannon: Menage a trois. Don't forget that one. Right? [last lines] Lt. Kara Wade: Just tell me you love me, you pussy. Lt. Kara Wade: You came back for me. Lt. Henry Purcell: If I have to, I will blast your aero-elastic ass right out of the sky. Lt. Ben Gannon: Don't think, drink! Lt. Ben Gannon: [referring to the possible future replacement of human pilots with artificially-intelligent aircraft] War's terrible. It's meant to be terrible, and if it stops being terrible, what's going to stop us? Lt. Ben Gannon: Shit, man. I didn't want for this to happen. I tried for it not to happen; Navy's got rules about it not happening but it's like this force that's got hold of me. [pause] I love her. Lt. Kara Wade: [mocking] Well you boy's will have to excuse me I have to go pee-pee! Tim: [referring to EDI] He a... downloads songs from the web. Lt. Ben Gannon: Yeah, how many? Tim: All of them. Lt. Ben Gannon: [laughs] Well you're in a pack of trouble with the record companies there, son. Lt. Henry Purcell: [as he is chasing EDI in the canyon] Look, I was the only one to defend you, but if you make me I will blast your areoelastic ass right out of the sky! Now lets stop flying around like this, this is crazy! EDI: EDI is a Warplane. EDI must have targets. EDI: [Gannon preparing to fire a missile] Talon 1, clarify your intentions. Lt. Ben Gannon: You gave me your word, I'm showing you mine. Dr. Keith Orbit: Once you design something to learn, you can't put stipulations on *what* it learns! Learn this, but don't learn that? He could learn from Adolf Hitler, he could learn from Captain Kangaroo! It's all the same to him! Ben's Date: I'll be back in a sec, I gotta go pee-pee. |
