| Plot: | Based on a true story, the movie tells of the struggle of a dance teacher, Pierre Dulain (Antonio Banderas), to give to a group of problem kids a second chance by exploring their dance skills. One night Dulain is astonished to see a boy, Rock (Rob Brown) destroying his school director's car. The following day Dulaine goes to the school to ask for a job as a dance teacher. The director has little confidence in Dulaine's idea of helping kids (including Rock) in detention to reform through ballroom dance classes. Even the kids, who prefer hip-hop or rap, think it isn't a great idea. Despite criticism from students in his formal dance academy as well as from parents and fellow teachers who believe that the kids need more math and less dance, Dulain catches the students' attention with a tango session. After their initial indifference, they eventually compete in a dance contest; the important thing isn't winning, but making a difference. |

Fact errors: Since the students in Pierre's class had never competed before, they would be automatically in the newcomer category, whereas the students from Pierre's studio would be competing at higher levels of bronze, silver, gold or open syllabus. Also, the students would be disqualified from dancing moves that were non-newcomer/bronze syllabus, which several of them did. Continuity: The first time when Pierre is in Augustine's office, he mentions the pictures of students on the wall. During the shot of the students, the pictures of Rock's brother and of LaRhette's brother are side by side. But when Pierre asks Augustine about Rock and LaRhette, she points out the students on the wall but LaRhette's brother's picture is below Rock's brother's picture. CHAR: In one scene in the basement, Antonio accidentally calls YaYa by her real name instead of her character's name. Continuity: In the tango scene of Pierre and Morgan, Pierre his shirt is tucked into his pants, when he says positions please and he walks aside everybody lined up, the shirt is over his pants. Revealing mistakes: At the dance competition Dulaine lets Rock borrow his Tux coat. Dulaine is much smaller than Rock however, the coat looks over sized on Rock when he's on the dance floor. BOOM: In a lot of the scenes in the cellar in which they keep the bad students, a microphone that appears to be on a track shows in most of the shots. BOOM: When Pierre is talking to a student in his dance studio, a boom microphone can be seen in the window behind the two characters. CHAR: In the dance scene with Pierre and Morgan during the detention, they dance Argentine tango, which is not considered a ballroom dance. American and international tango, both ballroom dances, are completely different. |

[from trailer] Pierre Dulaine: You can get what you want. Rock: No, some people get what they want. Pierre Dulaine: Those are the people who show up to get it. [from trailer] Pierre Dulaine: What I teach has value. Ramos: Not where I live. Principal Augustine James: You know who did that to my car, don't you? Pierre Dulaine: He may have been black, or hispanic. Principal Augustine James: ...Let me know if you remember... Caitlin: I'd kill to dance like that. It's like sex on hardwood. Rock: Doctor's note. I can't dance, I have a heart condition. Pierre Dulaine: Interesting man, your doctor. Not many doctors write notes on three-hole paper. Kurd: Why you gotta be such a ballroom weirdo? Eddie: Check Mr Dulaine! He's just gettin' his flirt on. Morgan: I've never seen anyone move like that before. Sasha: I'm sure. Pierre Dulaine: Do you love to dance? Caitlin: Yeah Pierre Dulaine: Then you're meant to dance. Eddie: Man, punk moves like that won't get you no play around here, trust me I've tried it. Pierre Dulaine: I understand six languages and I speak five - all with a Spanish accent Ramos: Dance to this. Principal: For these kids life is a fight to stay alive, and a hustle to make ends meet. Pierre Dulaine: I want to teach your kids to dance. Principal Augustine James: If theres' one thing they can do, it's dance. Pierre Dulaine: Ballroom dance? Waltz, the foxtrot? Principal Augustine James: Ok, where's the camera? Because if you're saying that you want to teach my kids the foxtrot I have to be on TV. Sasha: Look we don't need your charity or anything. Principal Augustine James: [on the phone about her car] I don't want it pimped I want it fixed! Pierre Dulaine: What if I said these dances would make you look cool? Rock: I'd say you're full of shit. Rock: No one does somethin' for nothin'. Ramos: I'm so fly I can make anyone look good. LaRhette: You think you one of us now? Caitlin: No. Eddie: Yo son, who died? Pierre Dulaine: Apparently your manners... Pierre Dulaine: Thank you. LaRhette: Uh-huh. Pierre Dulaine: I believe the appropiate response is "you're welcome" LaRhette: Uh-huh. Caitlin: Mr.Dulaine? Morgan says the kids you teach up town are a bunch of no-talent losers. Pierre Dulaine: You cannot always believe what Morgan says. Caitlin: I would really like to join them. Caitlin: Look, I want to be here. Not because I'm [awkwardly] "slumming it", but because I feel better here. Kurd: Check this out! Kurd: We don't need any more white bread tourists seeing how the other half lives. We don't. Caitlin: White bread? Excuse me, do you own a mirror? Ramos: [Danjou and Sasha kiss during tango dance] Whaaat? Ramos: What? ¿Tu no sabes? I can shake it. Pierre Dulaine: Then I suggest you shake it with the partner that I assigned you. Big Girl: [after being told to take Kurd's hand] Hold up. How the hell do I know where his hand's have been? Kurd: Here I'll show you! Kurd: [put's his hands down the front of his pants] Now you know! Pierre Dulaine: That's not right! That is NOT right! Eddie: Now that's "ball" room. |
