Revealing mistakes: During the scene when Becca Darling is pulled from the old police car in the car wash by a rubber hose, the harness that is holding her up was visible just as they were getting her down off of the hose. Continuity: When the car rolls through the car wash and is outside, in one shot the driver's side door is open. A few shots later the door is closed. Next shot after that the door is open again. Revealing mistakes: When Timothy Olyphant's character is grabbing supplies before getting in the Big Rig you see him grab a brand new Zippo from a display, take it out of the package and light it. Zippos do not come pre-filled with lighter fluid, so he would have had to fill it first. GEOG: The end shot of Cedar Rapids is wrong. The skyline resembles reality vaguely at best, and the real city is not in the center of a large, flat plain, it is in a rolling river valley. Also, the satellite image is completely wrong; for example, the Cedar River is not visible, nor is the major highway in the area, Interstate 380. Continuity: Before the sheriff lights the truck stop Crazy on fire, the Crazy pulls out a handgun. In the next shot the gun is gone, but in the shot after that he is holding it again. Continuity: Near the end of the film the deputy is seen dropping the magazine out of his handgun, but when the sheriff handed him the gun only a moment before, the gun did not have a magazine in it. Continuity: In the car wash scene, the deputy sheriff is holding a shotgun, then a rifle then the shotgun again. In the car wash, the shotgun was lost through the window and then after the car wash the deputy is holding a rifle again. Fact errors: After Judy measures Bill's blood pressure, the cuff from the sphygmomanometer is fully inflated, which would mean that his blood pressure was either incorrectly measured or not measured at all. Continuity: (At 1:07:35) When the deputy takes the rifle from the sheriff, he puts it on his left shoulder once when shown from the front, and then he does it again when they cut to a camera showing him from the back, repeating the action. GEOG: In the first indoor scene of the Sheriff's Office, on the wall is a display box with multiple sheriff office patches. The story is set in Iowa, but was actually filmed in Georgia, which explains why two of the patches featured in the display are in the shape of the state of Georgia. Fact errors: When the deputy deploys a spike strip to stop an SUV, the tires on the SUV blow out, leading to it losing control and rolling multiple times. In real life, spike strips have hollow spikes that break off and stay in the tires. This allows the tires to deflate in a slower and more controlled manner than a blowout. This is done specifically to avoid the sort of crashes seen in the movie. Revealing mistakes: When Timothy Olyphant's character is attacked in the morgue, he is hit with a metal IV stand, yet when it comes into contact with his face, you can clearly see the metal bend. Continuity: When Judy shoots the hunter inside the semi-truck, blood covers the inside window. It disappears once they begin driving. SYNC: When Russell is firing off the last 3 rounds in the bolt-action rifle; as he extracts the bolt to load the next round, the casing is heard hitting the ground yet none are seen ejecting out of the gun. GEOG: The boat in the swamp had a license on the side that started with an A. The A would match with a state that started with an A, yet the movie was taking place in Iowa. (In the credits, it said the movie was filmed in Arkansas and Georgia, so this must have been Arkansas.) Continuity: The sheriff's hand was bandaged in an earlier scene. When he was at the truck stop, the hand was in perfect shape. Later, when inside the semi, the bandaged hand was once again seen. GEOG: The story takes place in a small town near Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but the lat/long coordinate shown on the military display is located just north of Minnesota, in Alberta Canada. PLOT: SPOILER: In the scene when Timothy Olyphant's character stabs the "crazy" woman who is in his home, he pulls the blade out of her neck through his hand. This would cause direct infection to the character, transforming him into a "crazy", although it never does. Revealing mistakes: At the baseball scene the deputy is holding his gun in his right hand (obviously right-handed) but holsters it on his left side after the shooting (as if he were left-handed). Later he is shown with the gun holster on the right side. Crew: When the SUV crashes after having a spike strip used on the tires we can clearly see the mechanism underneath it that is used to roll the vehicle. FAIR: At the start of the film they shut off all water going to the town but later in the film there is a scene in a functional car wash. Automatic car washes recycle almost 100% of the water used to wash vehicles, making it entirely plausible that as long as the car wash had power it would have water during this scene. Fact errors: In the scene with the barn and the combine harvester, the combine harvester wouldn't be able to be left running due to the use of a dead man's switch - a device which stops the machine running if the operator's hand moves off it (in case of death, falling unconscious, etc). PLOT: SPOILER: A character in the film says that the virus has gone airborne, yet only one of the core group of characters (the sheriff's deputy) gets infected. Furthermore, if the virus was airborne, a nuclear bomb probably would not be effective, as the virus would have followed the wind and spread past the town by the time the bomb had detonated (or, at least would have been spread around by the ensuing shock-wave from the explosion). |

Becca Darling: This is really happening... Judy Dutton: It's gonna be alright, we're gonna be ok. Becca Darling: You don't really believe that, do you? David Dutton: Don't ask me why I can't leave without my wife and I won't ask you why you can. Bill Farnum: She worries too much. I'm fine. I'm just tired. Judy Dutton: So, what are you doing for the weekend? Bill Farnum: She worries too much. I'm fine. I'm just tired. Russell Clank: Boo-fucking-yah. Russell Clank: I'm not right, am I? David Dutton: You know what? Russell Clank: What? David Dutton: We're in trouble. David Dutton: [In the car wash, to the Deputy firing his shotgun out of the car window] RUSSELL! Russell Clank: I saw a movement! David Dutton: Everything is fuckin' moving! [first lines] Becca Darling: Um, Dr. Dutton, my aunt's in town. Judy Dutton: Um hmm... Becca Darling: And she's sick too. Judy Dutton: Phew, I'm going to need you to stay late tonight. You know, you should probably text your aunt - Scotty - and tell him you can't make it to the baseball game tonight. Russell Clank: Is he dead? David Dutton: Well if he is, he won't mind waiting. [last lines] Newscaster: [after credits] We want to update you on late-breaking news. A massive fire in Ogden Marsh continues to rage, and high winds are preventing fire teams from containing the deadly blaze. Now information is still coming in, but what we currently know is an explosion rocked the Daycon Pendril chemical plant early this morning, with eyewitness reports of a 400 foot fireball that lit-up the sky. We also have reports of another explosion at a nearby Clark fueling station... [breaking up] to contain the flames, and civilians are not being permitted... TV Screen: [SIGNAL LOST] Russell Clank: Fuck you for what you did. David Dutton: Do you wanna give up? You wanna sit here and die tell me, and i will sit here and die with you. |
