| Plot: | A modern day retelling of the classic story The Frog Prince. The Princess and the Frog finds the lives of arrogant, carefree Prince Naveen and hardworking waitress Tiana crossing paths. Prince Naveen is transformed into a frog by a conniving voodoo magician and Tiana, following suit, upon kissing the amphibian royalty. Continuity: SPOILER: When Charlotte kisses Prince Naveen as a frog, toward the end of movie, he is covered with lipstick kisses, but in the next shot the lipstick is gone. Revealing mistakes: When Naveen is mincing a mushroom for Tiana, you can see that his fingers are clearly in the way of the knife, yet he does not cut himself when he slices through the mushroom. GEOG: In the final scene you see the Mississippi River behind St. Louis Cathedral. In actuality the Mississippi River is in front of the Cathedral. Continuity: When Prince Naveen prepares the romantic dinner, he leans over the improvised table, and falls. However, only seconds later he gets up and sits on the edge of the table, which this time supports his full weight. FAIR: SPOILER: In the beginning of the movie, Tiana's dad writes "Tiana's PLACE" on the picture. At the end, the menu reads "Tiana's PLACE", but the restaurant is named "Tiana's PALACE". This deliberate name change is to emphasize the fact that Tiana is now a princess. SYNC: SPOILER: When Dr. Facilier steps on Ray, the sound indicates that the bug is crushed. A little later, Ray is shown still alive (though just barely) and in one piece. FAIR: Tiana is left-handed, but sometimes uses her right hand for writing and kitchen work. For much of European and American history, society considered using the left hand to be sinful or unnatural, so "lefties" often felt compelled to use the right hand in polite company. DATE: During the opening musical number, Big Daddy holds up a newspaper while in the car revealing a number of headlines including "Ford Corporation Introduces Trimotor" and "'Gertrude Ederle' (qv) Readies to Swim the English Channel." Neither of these events, nor Mardi Gras for that matter, took place on the newspaper's supposed date of April 25th 1926. The Trimotor first flew in June 1926, Ederle wouldn't swim the English Channel until August 6th, and Mardi Gras in 1926 fell on February 16th. FAIR: The fireflies consider themselves Cajun, but play Creole music. Human definitions and divisions are not required to apply to insects. Fact errors: Louis is established to be an alligator in the film. But when an alligator's mouth is closed, its teeth do not show out like a crocodile's. In the shots where Louis's mouth is closed, his teeth are showing. DATE: There are at least two references to "Bananas Foster," however this dish wasn't introduced until 1951. Continuity: SPOILER: Towards the end of the movie when Tiana is building her restaurant, the building on the left slides over to the left in the last flash scene. FAIR: On several occasions (particularly in "Almost There" and at the ball), there are numerous people either drinking or holding glasses of wine or champagne. This movie is set primarily in the 1920s. The possession and sale of alcohol in the United States was illegal between 1919 and 1933, because of the 18th Amendment (Prohibition), though Prohibition was widely disregarded, especially in New Orleans. Continuity: After Dr. Facilier retrieves the talisman from Tiana he turns her back into a frog and pins her down with his cane. The cane is there but after she grabs the talisman with her tongue the cane disappears and is nowhere to be found. |

Eudora: And the beautiful princess was so moved by his desperate plea that she stooped down, picked up the slippery creature, leaned forward, raised him to her lips, and kissed that little frog. Young Charlotte: Aww. Young Tiana: [gags] Eudora: Then lo and behold, the frog was transformed into a handsome prince! They were married and lived happily ever after. The end. Dr. Facilier: Don't you disrespect me, little man! Don't you derogate, or deride! / You're in my world now, not your world, and I've got friends on the other side... [ushers Naveen and Lawrence into his shop, from which murmurs are heard... ] Dr. Facilier: That's an echo, gentlemen. Just a little somethin' we have here in Louisiana. Little "parlor trick," don't worry. Dr. Facilier: [to Naveen, singing] Now you, young man, are from across the sea / come from two lines of royalty. I'm royal myself, on my mother's side... Your spirits are high, but your funds are low... / You need to marry a pretty honey whose daddy got some dough!... Mum and Dad cut you off, huh, pretty boy? Prince Naveen: Sad, but true! [Naveen shuts Louis up] [Naveen and Tiana are cooking dinner] Prince Naveen: [mincing vegetables] I'm not really used to doing this. I mean, most of the time I had servants do everything for me: dress my clothes, brush my teeth, even help me get out of bed! Princess Tiana: [stirring broth] Aw, you poor baby. Prince Naveen: Yes, they did everything for me, until the day my parents cut me off, and that's when I realized... I don't know how to do anything. Princess Tiana: Daddy never got what he wanted... but he had what he NEEDED: love! He never gave that up, and neither will I! Dr. Facilier: Y'all should have taken my deal. [the masks smile malevolently and ask him if HE's ready] Dr. Facilier: No! I'm not ready at all! In fact, I got lots more plans! This is just a minor setback in a major operation! Prince Naveen: Take your hands off me! [Dr. Facilier's final words] Dr. Facilier: I promise I'll pay y'all back, I PROMISE... [gets dragged into the jaws of a rapacious voodoo mask] Dr. Facilier: Shake my hand. Come on, boys, wont you shake a poor sinner's hand? Lawrence: [finding Naveen escaped] Oh, dear... Dr. Facilier: You let him go? Prince Naveen: [practicing a marriage proposal with Evangeline] I'm not sure I want to be a prince anymore, cause then we would have to go our separate ways. I don't want that, I want to stay close to you, no matter what. Because... I love you. [Ray sees, misunderstands and goes berserk on Naveen] 'Big Daddy' La Bouff: [to young Charlotte, in a very firm voice] Alright, now, Princess, you're gettin' that dress, but that's IT. No more Mr. Pushover! [In a much gentler voice] Now, who wants a puppy? Travis: But Ms. Charlotte you said later two hours ago. Charlotte: Travis, when a woman says later, she really means not ever. Now run along there are plenty of fillies dying for your to waltz them into a stupor. Charlotte: Gimme those napkins, quick. Princess Tiana: What for? Princess Tiana: [as they get off the boat] Ray, have you seen Naveen? Ray: Look at you! Where's the ring at? Princess Tiana: What are you talking about? Ray: Well, if captain say nothing I ain't gonna say nothing. Because old Ray sealed up tight as a drum you ain't got nothin' out of me, no! Princess Tiana: [chidding] Ray? Ray: Okay, captain ain't gonna marry Charlotte he gonna marry you. soon as he get himself kissed, and you both turn human, he go find a job, get you that restaurant. [stops suddenly] Ray: I said too much, didn't I? Princess Tiana: You said just enough, Ray! [looking to the sky before hopping off] Princess Tiana: Thank you, Evangeline... He was trying to propose. That's what all that fumling was about and here I thought, all he wanted was to marry a rich girl. Ray: [zig-zagging through the parade crowd] Chere! What what are we looking for in here? Princess Tiana: You just keep your eyes at one of of the biggest gaudiest float with a Mardi Gras princess about to kissed herself a... a frog. [sees Naveen "Lawrence" about the marry Charlotte] Prince Naveen: [as he is taken into the church] Lawrence, why are you doing this? Lawrence: [viciously] It's payback for all those years of... humiliation. Dr. Facilier: [during the illusion of Tiana's restaurant] Now, isn't this whole life better than hoppin' around bayou for the rest of your life? Princess Tiana: Shadow Man. Dr. Facilier: Gotta hand to you, Tiana. When you dream, you dream big. Just look at this place! Gonna be the crown jewel of the Cresent City. And all you got to do, to make this reality It's handle that little talisman of mine. Princess Tiana: [holding fast] No. This-this is not right. Dr. Facilier: Come on, darlin'? Think of everything you sacrificed. [as he shows her all the people who doubted her] Think of all those people who doubted you. [shows her father] And don't forget your poor daddy. Now, that was one hard working man... double, sometimes triple shifts. Never let know how bone tired, beat he really was. [as she charges him, shaking the talisman] Dr. Facilier: Easy with that! Careful! Princess Tiana: And neither will I. [thowing the talisman to ground] Lawrence: Sire! I've been looking for you everywhere! Prince Naveen: What a coincidence, Lawrence. I've been *avoiding* you everywhere! Prince Naveen: ...Actually it's polished marble. Prince Naveen: And then I realized... I can't do *anything*. Prince Naveen: What we want, what we need... All the same thing, yes? [Mama Odie whacks him with stick] [after Tiana and Naveen get married, they unexpectedly become human again] Mama Odie: Like I told y'all, kissing a princess breaks the spell. Prince Naveen: Once you became my wife, that made you... Princess Tiana: ...a princess. You just kissed yourself a princess. Prince Naveen: And... I'm about to do it again. [They kiss] Ray: [to Naveen and Tiana] Well you folks is goin' in the wrong direction. What kind of knucklehead told you to go this a way? Louis: [Ray jumps out of the bush] I found a stick! [Naveen and Tiana give him a blank stare] . Prince Naveen: TIANA!... Sorry, that was loud... James: You know the thing about good food? It brings folks together from all walks of life. It warms them right up and it puts little smiles on their faces. And when I open up my own restaurant, I tell you, people are gonna line up for miles around, just to get a taste of my food. Young Tiana: *Our* food! James: [chuckles] That's right, baby. Our food. [Tiana looks out her bedroom window] Young Tiana: Charlotte's fairy tale book said, if you make a wish on evening star it's sure to come true. Eudora: Hmm, won't you wish on that star, sweetheart? James: Yes, you wish and you dream with all your little heart. But you remember, Tiana, that old star can only take you part of the way. You got to help him with some hard work of your own.
