| Plot: | Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorcerer's Apprentice. |

Revealing mistakes: In the beginning of the movie it says the year is 2000, but when it pans the New York skyline, the twin towers of the World Trade Center are not there. Continuity: When Balthazar ('Nicolas Cage' (qv)) is released from the urn, he is not wearing a hat. In the next scene, he is wearing a hat. Continuity: When Balthazar ('Nicolas Cage' (qv)) is tied to the circular electric device in the lab, the two lines that tie his left hand to it are either close together, crossing over, or far apart, depending on the angle of the scene used. Fact errors: Dave playing the songs on the Tesla Coils is actually impossible.,He stated they were Plasma-based Coils, and only solid state Tesla coils are capable of pitch manipulation. CHAR: In one scene Dave states that he is standing in a puddle of "pop". However, the movie is set in New York city where everyone refers to soft drinks as "soda". Crew: When leaving the shop the camera and crane can be seen in the reflection in the shop window. |

Dave Stutler: [from trailer] I'm afraid of flying on planes! Balthazar Blake: Well, today's your lucky day 'cause I brought an eagle. Balthazar Blake: [from trailer] Dave! You should run. Dave Stutler: [from trailer] This is crazy! Balthazar Blake: [grins] But it *is* fun. Balthazar Blake: [from trailer] [creature smashes his car. Balthazar stares at it in disbelief] That's my car. Dave Stutler: [from trailer] [holding pointy shoes Balthazar just gave him] These are old man shoes. Balthazar Blake: [shows Balthazar wearing the same shoes] Excuse me? Dave Stutler: I love them... A lot. Balthazar Blake: You're a bad liar, Dave. That's good. Balthazar Blake: What happened to 'don't touch anything'? Dave Stutler: I have been searching all over the world for you. You're going to be a force for good and a very important sorcerer. But for now, you're my apprentice Dave Stutler: [stunned] I'm a what? Balthazar Blake: Keep it subtle. Civilians must not know that magic still exists. That could make things complicated. Dave Stutler: Alright, Mr. Pointy Hat. Dave Stutler: I don't actually know who you are. Drake Stone: Really? You don't recognize me? Dave Stutler: Are you in Depeche Mode? Dave Stutler: [as Dave and Becky are flying on the eagle] I think I should tell you, I'm not sure how to land this thing. Balthazar Blake: [as Dave is trying to go out with Becky] It's okay. I have to go into town anyway to get your anti-itch cream. Dave Stutler: [singing] I got a date with a girl cause I'm... awesome! Dave Stutler: These coils are my life. Two years I'm down here working with them and they're making their own music and it was lost on me and I was never able to appreciate it, until I met you. And I heard you talking about music on your radio show... [sigh] I'm sappy. Balthazar Blake: [In Cantonese] Your hair is beautiful. Maxim Horvath: [as a old Chinese lady] Oh. You speak Mandarin? Balthazar Blake: Ahh. [threw Horvath in disguise at the door with a spell] That was Cantonese, Horvath. The Grimhold, where is it? Maxim Horvath: An old associate of mine speaks inpeccable Cantonese. He lived about 200 years ago. You know him, Sun Lok. Course you do. You locked him inside the Grimhold. [showed Sun Lok's opened Grimhold] Oops. Opened it. Dave Stutler: Are you insane? [Balthazar thinks, then holds up his fingers an inch apart] Little bit. Okay. Maxim Horvath: [waving hand] You do not need to see our faculty ID's. NYU Clerk: I do not need to see your faculty ID. Drake Stone: [waving hand and imitating Star Wars] These are not the droids you are looking for. |
