| Plot: | In Chicago, the special collections librarian Henry DeTamble has a genetic anomaly that allows him to travel in time; however, he is not able to control the moment or the destiny of his voyages. When the stranger Clare Abshire meets him in the library, she invites him to have dinner with her in his favorite restaurant Beau Thai where she confesses that she has been in love with him since she was six years old. Henry leans that he had visited her many times in the real state of her parents and he falls in love with her. Sooner they get married, but the life of Clare becomes troubled with the successive unexpected travels of her beloved husband. |

Goofs
|
Continuity: SPOILER: During Claire and Henry's fight about his vasectomy Claire is seen working with a piece of handmade paper. She removes the mould and flips it upside down and presses on it to remove the moisture before couching it onto a piece of blotter paper. The camera zooms out and you can see it hasn't been flipped. Zoom in, zoom out again and its is back to being in the flipped position. Continuity: During one scene Henry talks to a young Claire in the meadow, she is wearing a dark purple t-shirt with a white pinafore dress. In some shots of Claire a white thread/piece of fluff is clearly visible on the dark background of her purple sleeve, it disappears and reappears between shots. Continuity: Toward the beginning of the film Henry has just come inside from a driving rain storm. He is not wearing anything on his head and yet when he is indoors his hair is dry. Miscellaneous: In the scene at Alba's 5th birthday party, in the kitchen, when Clare is asking Henry about his discussion with Alba, a hair pin is seen dangling from the end of the loose piece of hair in Clare's face. FAIR: If Henry time-travels nude, he would not have lock picks. However, it is possible to pick locks with paper clips, hairpins, basically a couple of stiff wires. These are not particularly difficult to find. Continuity: In the scene when its their first kiss for Claire, Claire has a long, thin, brown hair clip on her hair, near the end of the scene, the hair clip becomes yellow. Continuity: When Henry sits with his mother on the train she is reading "The Chicago Tribune" yet when she goes to turn the page, the banner on the inside of her paper reads "The Washington Post". PLOT: SPOILER: When Henry returns back to the time of his wedding he has gray hair. Upon his death he does not have gray hair, nor does he at any other "present time". While he might have gone gray and started coloring it at some point, it is unexplained how he returns with gray hair at his wedding (and on an earlier return to visit Claire). Fact errors: In the film Dr. Kendrick is shown giving Henry a "magnetic resonance imaging scan". In reality these procedures are done by certified MRI technicians and not by Ph.D geneticists. Continuity: In the first meadow scene, young Clare pulls off her right shoe and throws it at the bushes, where she believes her brother Mark is hiding. When she runs to take the blanket to Henry, we see that it is her left shoe that is missing off her foot. Revealing mistakes: The scene where Clare is in the bathtub talking to Henry the water is clearly visible near the top of the tub. When the shot changes to a medium of Henry it is clear that the tub is empty of water. GEOG: The movie is set in Chicago, Illinois in United States of America, but in the scene where Henry disappears and after we see Clare cleaning up the plate he dropped, you see him crossing the street and there is a Canadian flag flying on top of a building in the background. |

Clare Abshire: I wouldn't change one second of our life together. Richard DeTamble: [many years after his wife's death] I still miss her. I miss her every day. Richard DeTamble: [bitterly] If you traveled back to then, why couldn't you have stopped her from getting into that goddamn car? Alba at Nine: Tell me the story of how you and Mama met? Henry DeTamble: Doesn't she tell you? Alba at Nine: She does, but not like you do. Henry DeTamble: Well, it was right here in this meadow. And one fine day, your mom, who's just a tiny little thing, goes out to the clearing, and there's a man there. Alba at Nine: With no clothes. Henry DeTamble: Not a stitch on him. And after she gives him the blanket she happens to be carrying, he explains to her that he's a time traveler. Now, for some reason I'll never understand, she believes him. Alba at Nine: 'Cause it's true. Clare at Eight: Are you married? Henry DeTamble: Yes, I am. Clare at Eight: Is your wife a time traveler? Henry DeTamble: No. No, thank God. Clare at Eight: Do you love her? Henry DeTamble: Yes. Very much. What's wrong? Clare at Eight: Nothing. I was just hoping you're married to me. Clare Abshire: I wrote down every time that you came to visit me. Henry DeTamble: Which I gather I did, or will do, fairly often. Clare Abshire: The last time that I saw you, I was 18. Seems that you go back to the same places a lot. Henry DeTamble: Yeah, it's like gravity. Big events pull you in. Clare Abshire: I was a big event. Henry DeTamble: So it would seem. Henry DeTamble: Where's Henry? Clare Abshire: Uh, I left him sleeping. I needed some time away from him. Henry DeTamble: How's that working out for you? Clare Abshire: Honey, do you know who that is playing with Alba? Henry DeTamble: That's Alba. Clare Abshire: Yes, I know, but who is that with her? Henry DeTamble: That's your daughter. She's time-travelling. Is it too weird for you? Clare Abshire: No, it's actually kind of magical. Richard DeTamble: Well, I suppose I have to meet her parents. Henry DeTamble: Her Dad is a Republican, and a hunter. Richard DeTamble: Oh dear! Henry DeTamble: I never wanted to have anything in my life that I couldn't stand losing. But it's too late for that. It's not because you're beautiful and smart. I don't feel alone anymore. Will you marry me? Clare Abshire: No. I didn't mean that. I just wanted to try it, to say it, to assert my own sense of free will, but my free will wants you. Henry DeTamble: So it's a yes? Clare Abshire: Yes, of course. |
