FAIR: Various differences from the comic books. These are, by policy, not considered errors. Continuity: When Logan is drinking his Doctor Pepper while talking to Iceman, his grip on the bottleneck alternates between shots. Continuity: Wolverine takes the soda from the cabinet and pops the top off. Before taking a drink, he hands it to Bobby (Iceman) to cool it off for him. In the next shot of Iceman, Wolverine's arm, and the soda bottle, the amount of soda has noticeably decreased. In the third shot, we see Wolverine and the now icy bottle with the soda level returned to the same level as the first shot. Continuity: When the X-men jet is trying to dodge the rockets, there are a few close-ups of Bobby showing that the seat in front of him is empty. In other shots before and after the close-ups of Bobby, it shows that Rogue is sitting in that "empty" seat. Continuity: While the X-Men are running away from the lab, Jean's limp disappears during one shot. Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When all the X-Men and Xavier are talking with the president, supposedly everyone who is not an X-Man is frozen or time has stood still but in one shot you can clearly see someone blink a couple of times. Continuity: During the "crash landing" of the plane, Rogue's seatbelt changes position between shots. Continuity: During the attack on the school, one of the soldiers opens fire in the kitchen and the Dr Pepper bottle on the counter changes places between shots. Revealing mistakes: Nightcrawler is visible in the shadows behind the children before he and Storm arrive at the cell. PLOT: Since Senator Kelly died in the middle of X-Men (2000), his subsequent appearances have been impersonations by Mystique. But any U.S. Senator's personal and political obligations occupy nearly every hour of each day. Given that there is only one Mystique, and that she impersonates several other characters in addition to appearing as herself, "Senator Kelly" must frequently disappear for hours or days at a time. In the real world or even the comic book world, her intermittent use of Kelly's likeness would be quickly uncovered as bogus by his family or staff. Continuity: In the scene in the lab where Nightcrawler is going to save the kids in the cage below, you see him in the shadows of the cell in an inside close-up, but in the next shot, he is on top of the bars. Then, when he is about to teleport into the cell, you can see him again in the close-up of the cell shadows, then emerging from the same shadows. PLOT: When Stryker visits Magneto to interrogate him, he enters Magneto's cell while still wearing his glasses, which have metal legs. The scanning process should have caught that on his way in; if it hadn't, Magneto should be able to manipulate them and use them to escape. It was shown in the first movie that Magneto can manipulate even non-ferrous metals, so he should have been able to affect Stryker's glasses. Continuity: In the beginning Wolverine's hair and beard change between shots (possibly scenes or re-shoots filmed while the actor was making Van Helsing (2004) at the time). Continuity: On the X Plane before the missiles hit it, Rogue scrambled to get her seat belt buckled. However, after the first plane flip, she's sitting with a smile on her face, hands in her lap, no worries. Then she's shown again gasping and holding the belt buckles with both her hands. Continuity: SPOILER: In the scene where the X-Men are in the President's office at the end of the film, they hand him a blue folder. When they have left and time begins moving again, there is a green folder and random papers on his desk. The next time we see his desk there is only a blue folder neatly placed in front of him. FAIR: SPOILER: In X-Men (2000), Wolverine is able to spot Mystique twice by catching her scent. Once when she disguised herself as a small Statue of Liberty, and another time as Storm. Yet, he does not catch Mystique by scent when she masquerades as Jean Grey and tries to seduce him. Clearly his own feelings for Jean and this sudden arousal threw him off and kept him from sensing the impersonation. SYNC: In the attack on the mansion, the soldiers' P90s all have silencers attached, yet whenever the guns are fired, there are muzzle flashes and the shots are louder than they should be. Continuity: In the X Plane right before the alarm alerts of the missiles, Rogue can be seen with one strap of the seat restraints over her left arm. The next shot with Rogue visible shows no strap and her arms in a different position. Continuity: The scene where Nightcrawler and Storm saves the captured children in the dungeon, Nightcrawler can be seen in the dungeon's darkness in the center of the shot even before he has teleported down to save them. Fact errors: Mystique injects the guard a solution with high iron content so Magneto would be able to manipulate the iron in his bloodstream. The iron in this solution would have to be in the ionized state (valence of +2 or +3), but Magneto is shown to have power over metals but only in their unionized form (valence 0), which is the metallic state and not soluble in water. Even the metal detectors would not pick up the high iron content in the bloodstream. FAIR: When dealing with the police, Wolverine gets shot in the head. It seems like the bullet penetrates his skull then is pushed out by his healing powers, however, the bullet only hits his Adamantium skull and sticks to his skull. Very similar to crashing a car into a brick wall and the car not bouncing back. Wolverine is knocked out by the force of having his head jerked at speeds of excess to 90 mph. His healing powers then push the bullet off his skull. Revealing mistakes: Right before Wolverine leaves the assault team (Magneto, Mystique, Jean Grey and Nightcrawler) in the Spill Control Room, you can see the beard prosthetics adhesive base on his jawline. Continuity: In the scene where she goes inside Cerebro with Nightcrawlers help, Storm's make up changes between the shots. Continuity: When Mystique has impersonated Wolverine and entered the spillway doors in one shot shes almost near the doors when she shouts Stryker's name. In the next shot she's further away from the doors. In the next shot she's again by the door. Continuity: SPOILER: In the climax when Jean Grey is trying to raise the airplane, she is saying "I know... the only way". A shot is taken of Jean's face outside and the plane is visible in the background but none of the people inside are visible. Yet in the previous shot the X-Men are looking out through the glass. FAIR: At one point in the movie, Rogue, Ice Man and Pyro want to know where their X-Men uniforms are and Wolverine says they're on order. However, later when confronting the President, Rogue and Ice Man are wearing X-Men suits. However, this is clearly one of Logan's frequent sarcastic answers towards juniors. Continuity: In the scene where Nightcrawler is supposed to save the children in the lab, in the shots of the kids, you can see Nightcrawler in the shadows before he first goes down there. In actuality, he was above them talking to Storm about how everything was going to work. CHAR: In the X-Men (2000) Storm spoke with a foreign accent, but here speaks in Halle Berry's natural American tones. CHAR: When visiting the Smithsonian, the X-men students are told that the Homo neanderthalensis did not go extinct, but crossed with the Homo sapiens. However, this theory (though suiting Xavier's attitude) is losing more ground in the scientific world with each genetic study of Neanderthalian remains, none of which have shown a proof of a genetic crossing with our ancestors. CHAR: When Iceman reveals to his parents he's a mutant, his father accuses Iceman's mother, saying it was "all her fault". Wolverine jumps into the argument by saying the mutant gene is carried on the Y chromosome, and that therefore it's the father's fault mutants are as they are. If this is so, female mutants can't exist, as women only have X chromosomes. Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: After Jean Gray sacrifices herself, there is a shot of the dam showing the breach and flooded area. While the entire foreground is flooded the water level is only a few feet below the top of the dam. |

[about Mystique] Wolverine: She's good. Magneto: You have no idea. Wolverine: Got any beer? Bobby: This is a school. Wolverine: So that's a no? Bobby: Yeah, that's a no. Wolverine: Well, do you have anything other than chocolate milk? Nightcrawler: You know, outside the circus, most people were afraid of me. But I didn't hate them. I pitied them. Do you know why? Because most people will never know anything beyond what they see with their own two eyes. Storm: Well, I gave up on pity a long time ago. Nightcrawler: Someone so beautiful should not be so angry. Storm: Sometimes anger can help you survive. Nightcrawler: So can faith. Mrs. Madeline Drake: [to Bobby] Have you ever tried... not being a mutant? Rogue: Logan, come on. Let's go. Wolverine: Go, I'll be fine! Rogue: But we won't. Pyro: I'm driving. Wolverine: Maybe next time. Wolverine: Who's this guy? Rogue: This is Bobby, he's my... Bobby: I'm her boyfriend. [shakes Logan's hand and freezes it] Bobby: Call me Iceman. Wolverine: Boyfriend? So how do you guys...? Bobby: Well, we're still working on that. [during the attack on the mansion] Colossus: I can help you. Wolverine: [Motioning to the children] Help them! Professor X: William. William Stryker: Please, Xavier, don't get up. [electronic static] I call it the neural inhibitor. It keeps you outta here. Professor X: What have you done with Scott? William Stryker: Don't worry. I'm just giving him a little reeducation. Of course, you know all about that, don't you? Professor X: William, you wanted me to cure your son. But mutation is not a disease. William Stryker: You're lying. You were more frightened of him than I was. You know, just one year after Jason returned from your school... my wife - you see he resented us. He blamed us for his condition. So he would toy with our minds... projecting visions and scenarios into our brains. Well, my wife, in the end... she took a power drill to her left temple in an attempt to bore the images out. My boy, the great illusionist. [crackling] Professor X: For someone who hates mutants... you certainly keep some strange company. William Stryker: Oh, they serve their purpose... as long as they can be controlled. Professor X: You arranged the attack on the president. William Stryker: You didn't even have to read my mind. You know, I've been working with mutants as long as you have, Xavier... but the most frustrating thing I've learned is that nobody really knows how many even exist or how to find them - except you. Unfortunately this little potion won't work on you, will it? You're much too powerful for that. Instead we'll go right to the source. Allow me to introduce mutant 143. The fluid secreted by his brain acts as a mind-controlling agent. [machinery hissing] But that's only where it begins. Professor X: Jason. Oh, my God, William. This is your son. What have you done to him? William Stryker: No, Charles! My son is dead... just like the rest of you. [hissing continues, Xavier gasps] Magneto: Charles Xavier. Have you come to rescue me? Professor X: Sorry, Eric. Not today. Magneto: To what do I owe the pleasure? Professor X: The assassination attempt on the president. What do you know about it? Magneto: Nothing. Only what I read in the papers. You really shouldn't have to ask, Charles. Professor X: What's happened to you? Magneto: I've had frequent visits from William Stryker. You remember him, don't you? Professor X: William Stryker. Magneto: His son, Jason, was once a student of yours, wasn't he? Professor X: Yes. Years ago. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to help him... at least not in the way his father wanted. Magneto: And now you think that taking in the Wolverine will make up for your failure with Stryker's son. You haven't told him about his past, have you? Professor X: I've put him on the path. Logan's mind is still fragile. Magneto: Is it? Or are you afraid of losing one of your precious X-men... old friend? Professor X: Eric, what have you done? Magneto: I'm sorry, Charles. I couldn't help it. Professor X: What have you told Stryker? Magneto: [sighs] Everything. [gas emits] The war has begun. Professor X: Scott! Magneto: You should've killed me when you had the chance! Storm: Can you teleport inside? Nightcrawler: No. I have to be able to see where I am going, otherwise I could wind up inside a wall. William Stryker: The tricky thing about adamantium is, that if you ever manage to process its raw, liquid form, you got to keep it that way, keep it hot. Because once the metal cools, it's indestructible. But you already know that. Dr. Jean Grey: Why do you need us? Magneto: Mystique has discovered plans of a base that Stryker's been operating out of for decades. Only we don't know where it is. We thought one of you might. Wolverine: The professor already tried. Magneto: [sighs] Once again, you think it's all about you. [he looks up. They follow his gaze and see Nightcrawler perched in the trees above them] Madeline Drake: You have to understand, we thought we were sending Bobby to a school for the gifted. Rogue: Bobby is gifted. You should see what he can do. [Bobby proceeds to freeze the tea his mother is drinking] Pyro: So, they say you're the bad guy. Magneto: Is that what they say? Pyro: That's a dorky looking helmet. What's it for? Magneto: This "dorky looking helmet" is the only thing that's going to protect me from the REAL bad guys. [magnetically takes Pyro's lighter and lights it] Magneto: What's your name? Pyro: [staring at his lighter in Magneto's hands] John. Magneto: What's your *real* name, John? Pyro: [summons lighter's flame to his hand] Pyro. Magneto: Quite a talent you have there, Pyro. Pyro: I can only manipulate the fire [flame disappears into Pyro's hand] Pyro: I can't create it. Magneto: You are a god among insects. Never let anyone tell you different. Pyro: [grunts] I don't like uncomfortable silences. Rogue: What are you doing? [radio turns on and "Bye Bye Bye" by N'Sync Plays] Pyro, Rogue, Wolverine, Bobby: [all groan] Ahh. Pyro: That's it. Bobby: Whoa. What do you think you're doing. Pyro: I'm tired of this kid's-table shit, I'm going in there. Rogue: John they told us to stay here. Pyro: [looks back] You always do what you're told? [leaves the jet] Pyro: You know all those dangerous mutants you hear about in the news? I'm the worst one. Professor X: Eric what have you done? Magneto: I'm sorry, Charles. I couldn't help it. Professor X: What have you told Stryker? Magneto: Everything. [in the X-Jet, being pursued by two fighter jets] Storm: I gotta shake them! [she does a roll with the plane and drops it sharply towards the ground, then levels off] Pyro: [looking ill] Please don't do that again. Wolverine: [looking ill] I agree. Storm: Kurt, it's about to get very cold in here. Nightcrawler: I'm not going anywhere. Magneto: [Magneto uses his power to stop the X-Jet from crashing] When will these people learn how to fly? [Pyro gets into a fight with some kids in the food court, and sets one's clothes on fire. Bobby puts it out with a jet of ice. Just as everyone is staring at them, they freeze. There is dead silence] Rogue: Bobby, what did you do? Bobby: I didn't do it. Professor X: No, but I did. [Professor X. wheels up] Professor X: And the next time you feel like showing off... don't. [looking over Stryker's confidential papers] President McKenna: How did you get these? Professor X: Well, let's just say I know a little girl who can walk through walls. Nightcrawler: Excuse me? They say you can imitate anybody, even their voice. Mystique: [as Nightcrawler] Even their voice. Nightcrawler: Then why not stay in disguise all the time? You know, look like everyone else. Mystique: Because we shouldn't have to. Policeman: Put the knives down! Wolverine: I can't. Wolverine: If you want to shoot me, then shoot me! [Cyclops, under Stryker's mind control, attacks Jean, Magneto, and Mystique] Dr. Jean Grey: Go! I'll handle him! Magneto: [to Mystique] This is one lovers' quarrel we cannot get involved in, my dear. Wolverine: She did make a choice, Scott. It was you. Wolverine: Who are you? William Stryker: Don't you remember? Little Girl 143: Hello. Who are you? Storm: Professor, we're in trouble! You have to stop Cerebro now! Little Girl 143: Who are you talking to? Storm: [halting Nightcrawler from advancing towards the child] Stop! Don't get close to her. Nightcrawler: But she's just a little girl. Storm: No, she's not. Little Girl 143: [smiles] I see you. Cyclops: Everybody stand back. Dr. Jean Grey: Scott no. His mind is connected to Cerebro. Opening the door, could kill him and everyone his mind is linked to. Storm: Wait. Kurt, I need you to take me inside. Cyclops: Storm, who is this guy? Who are you? Nightcrawler: My name is Kurt Wagner, but in the Munich Circus... Storm: [puts her hand over Kurt's mouth] He's a teleporter. Nightcrawler: I told you, If I can't see where I'm going... Storm: I have faith in you. Dr. Jean Grey: Don't believe anything you see in there. Nightcrawler: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done... [teleports]... on Earth as it is in heaven. Nightcrawler: Guten tag. Wolverine: [to Nightcrawler] Who the hell are you? [to Jean and Storm] Who the hell is this? Nightcrawler: Kurt Wagner, but in the Munich circus, I was known as The Incredib... Wolverine: Yeah, save it. Madeline Drake: Bobby? Aren't you supposed to be in school? William Drake: Do you know him? [they look at Logan] Bobby: That's Professor... Logan. Mom, Dad... there's something I need to tell you. [last lines] Dr. Jean Grey: [voiceover] Mutation. It is the key to our evolution. It is how we have evolved from a single-cell organism into the dominant species on the planet. This process is slow, normally taking thousands and thousands of years. But every few millennia evolution leaps forward. [first lines] Professor X: [voiceover] Mutants. Since the discovery of their existence they have been regarded with fear, suspicion, often hatred. Across the planet, debate rages. Are mutants the next link in the evolutionary chain or simply a new species of humanity fighting for their share of the world? Either way it is a historical fact: Sharing the world has never been humanity's defining attribute. William Drake: What exactly are you a professor *of*, "Professor Logan?" Wolverine: [Rogue, Bobby, and Pyro look at Logan, none of the kids knowing what to say] [pause] Art. Storm: [about Nightcrawler's markings] So... What are they? Nightcrawler: They're angelic symbols, passed on to mankind by the archangel Gabriel. Storm: They're beautiful. How many do you have? Nightcrawler: One for every sin. So quite a few. William Stryker: Sergeant, kill everyone that approaches; even if it is me. [Deathstrike extends her claws] Wolverine: Holy shit. Dr. Jean Grey: Girls flirt with the dangerous guy, they don't bring him home; they marry the good guy. Wolverine: I can be the good guy. Dr. Jean Grey: Logan, the good guy sticks around. Magneto: [approaching an incapacitated Xavier] How does it look from there Charles? Still fighting the good fight? From here it looks like they're not playing by your rules... Maybe it's time to play by theirs! William Stryker: If there's one thing I know more than anyone else, it's my own work. Seal the room. Shoot it. [to Wolverine] Magneto: The professor thought you would be able to figure it out on your own. He gives you more credit than I do. Mystique: No one's left a scar quite like you. Wolverine: What do you want - an apology? Mystique: [bites him sexily on the ear] You know what I want. [shifts into Storm, then Rogue] Mystique: But what do you want? [Wolverine pushes her off, then she transforms into Stryker] Mystique: What do you *really* want? Wolverine: I want you to leave. [Mystique exits, glaring] Wolverine: [under his breath] Jesus. Bobby: Have you ever wanted to be with someone so badly, but you can't? [pause] Bobby: I've seen how you look at Professor Grey. Wolverine: Excuse me? Bobby: Nothing. Bobby: This is Cyclops' car. Wolverine: Oh, yeah? [pops his middle claw, and uses it to turn the ignition] Wolverine: I need you to read my mind again. Professor X: Logan, the mind isn't just a box that can be unlocked and opened, it's a beehive with many... Wolverine: Spare me the lecture. Wolverine: Who am I? William Stryker: If you knew the kind of person you used to be, the work we did together... People don't change, Wolverine. You were an animal then and you're an animal now. I just gave you claws. Little Girl 143: I've got my eyes on you. Sgt. Lyman: Sir, the Cerebro device has been completed according to your specifications. William Stryker: Good. [Lyman looks at the monitor showing the room where the mutant children are being held prisoner] Sgt. Lyman: If I may ask, sir, why are we keeping the children? William Stryker: I'm a scientist, Sgt. Lyman. When I build a machine, I want to make sure it's working. Professor X: Logan, my tolerance for your smoking in the mansion notwithstanding, continue smoking that in here, and you'll spend the rest of your days under the belief that you're a six-year-old girl. Wolverine: You'd do that? Professor X: I'd have Jean braid your hair. Bobby: [to Rogue] I'll try to find some clothes, [to John] Bobby: Don't burn anything. Bobby: I found some of my Mom's old clothes. I think they're from before I was born. Rogue: [pauses, looking over the clothes] Groovy. [they're playing thumb war] Bobby: You're so dead. Rogue: No, you're dead. [they get closer and Bobby leans in for a kiss] Rogue: I don't want to hurt you. Bobby: I'm not afraid. Wolverine: How long have you been here? Bobby: Couple of years, it's not so bad. Wolverine: What about your parents, they just shipped you off to mutant school? Bobby: Actually, my parents think this is a prep school. Wolverine: Well, I guess lots of prep schools have their own campus, dorms, kitchens... Bobby: Jets? William Stryker: I have found evidence of a mutant training facility in upstate New York. Senator Kelly: [Mystique in disguise] This facility is a school. William Stryker: Sure it is. President McKenna: What is that? William Stryker: A jet. President McKenna: What kind of jet? William Stryker: We don't know-but it comes out of the basketball court. [Rogue sees Magneto and Mystique talking, then they notice her] Magneto: We love what you've done with your hair. Rogue: They told us to stay here! Pyro: Do you always do as your told? Rogue: John, knock it off. Bobby: Will you stop showing off? Pyro: What, for her? It's not my fault if your girlfriend's getting excited. Magneto: A war is brewing... Senator Kelly: [Mystique in disguise] Mr. Stryker, do you really want to turn this into some kind of war? William Stryker: I was pilotin' Black Ops missions in the jungles of North Vietnam while you were suckin' on your mama's tit at Woodstock, Kelly. Don't lecture me about war. This already is a war. Madeline Drake: This is all my fault. Pyro: Actually they discovered that it's the male who carries the mutant gene and passes it on, so it's his fault. Nightcrawler: Please don't kill me, I didn't mean to harm anyone. Storm: Now why would people have gotten that impression? Madeline Drake: We still love you Bobby, it's just this mutant problem is a little... Wolverine: [Interrupting] What Mutant problem? Madeline Drake: ...complicated. Mitchell Laurio: Have a nice sleep, Lensherr? Magneto: There's something different about you today, Mr. Laurio. Mitchell Laurio: Yeah, I *was* having a good day. Magneto: [gets up] No, it's something else... Mitchell Laurio: Sit down. Magneto: No. Mitchell Laurio: [draws his club] I said, sit your ass down! [He starts for Magneto, who holds up his hand. Laurio stops forcibly] Mitchell Laurio: [gasps] What are you doing? Magneto: Ah, there it is... [He lifts his hand, and Laurio lifts into the air] Magneto: Too much iron in your blood! [He draws a cloud of iron particles out through Laurio's skin, and squeezes them into a set of ball bearings. Laurio collapses to the floor, unmoving] Magneto: Mr. Laurio, never trust a beautiful woman. Especially one who's interested in you. [Wolverine approaches Stryker, chained to the outside of the dam, while carrying Artie in his arms] William Stryker: Who has the answers, Wolverine? Those people? That creature in your arms? Huh? Huh? [Wolverine looks at Artie, then takes off his "Wolverine" dog tag and throws it at Stryker's feet] Wolverine: I'll take my chances with him. [he turns and walks away] William Stryker: One day, someone will finish what I've started, Wolverine! [Artie looks over Wolverine's shoulder at Stryker, and sticks out his lizard tongue at him] William Stryker: [shouts] One day! Wolverine: You picked the wrong house, bub. [Stryker comes to interrogate Magneto] Magneto: Ah, Mr. Stryker! Come to see that American tax dollars are keeping me comfortable? Professor X: [connected to Cerebro] These lights represent every living person on the planet. These white lights are the humans... and these are the mutants. You see, Logan? We're not as alone as you think. Wolverine: [tosses Cyclops the keys to his motorbike] Your bike needs gas. Cyclops: [tosses back the keys] Then fill it up. Dr. Sebastian Shaw: Look, I think all this anti-mutant protesting underscored the genuine growing concern among most Americans. I think mutant registration... Dr. Hank McCoy: But why stop there? Maybe it would be easier to round up mutants by the truckload. Or maybe you'd like all-out war, Mr. Shaw. Dr. Sebastian Shaw: Oh, please. [to Stryker] Wolverine: If we die, you die. President McKenna: What do you need, William? William Stryker: Just your authorization for a special operation. President McKenna: And somehow I thought you were here to talk about school reform. William Stryker: Funny you should say that, Mr. President. [Jean and Storm are headed off to Boston to find Nightcrawler] Professor X: I'm sending you the coordinates of his location right now Storm: Lets just hope he cooperates... Professor X: Yes, for his sake. Good luck. Bobby: [about to kiss Rogue] You won't hurt me. Nightcrawler: There was so much shooting, such fear and then there was only pain. I could see it all happening, but I couldn't stop myself. It was like a bad dream. Perhaps he is testing me. Storm: And before you were in the white house, what do you remember? Nightcrawler: Nothing. I was here. Storm: Jean? [Invites Jean to read his mind] Dr. Jean Grey: I'd rather get him back to the professor. Nightcrawler: The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of the death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. [after watching Nightcrawler teleport around the room] Dr. Jean Grey: You bored yet? Storm: Yep. |
