Biography: Penelope is the middle of three daughters born to Mark Miller , best known as the father on "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" (1965) and later a writer and filmmaker, who wrote A Walk in the Clouds (1995) and Beatrice Miller , who worked for Diana Vreeland as a fashion editor for "Harper's Bazaar" magazine and later a journalist for "Life" magazine. She now is a yoga instructor with a non-profit for the disabled called " The Yogability Institute". Her older sister, Marisa Miller , is also an actress and younger sister, Savannah Miller, is a social worker and a representative for Arbonne skin-care products. At age 15, she was in a car accident when their family was going on a ski trip. This left her with a barely noticeable scar on her right cheek. She graduated from high school in L.A. and moved to New York at 18, where she studied theater. Her big break was on Broadway, when she was cast in Neil Simon 's 1985's Tony award-winning play "Biloxi Blues", opposite 'Mathew Broderick'. In 1988, she starred in Our Town (1989) (TV) with Eric Stoltz and Spalding Gray and was nominated for a Tony award for her performance as "Emily". In 1990, she moved into films. Penelope Ann Miller has shared the screen with some of the most notable and renowned leading men and directors in Hollywood. This distinguished list includes Al Pacino and Sean Penn in director Brian de Palma's Carlito's Way for which she received a Golden Globe nomination; Marlon Brando and Matthew Broderick in The Freshman directed by Andrew Bergman; Robert De Niro and Robin Williams in Penny Marshall's Awakenings; Robert Downey Jr. in Sir Richard Attenborough's Chaplin; Danny DeVito and Gregory Peck in Norman Jewison's Other People's Money; Matthew Broderick & Christopher Walken in Mike Nichols' Biloxi Blues; and Arnold Schwarzenegger in Ivan Reitman's Kindergarten Cop. And now to add to that distinguished list, Rob Reiner in his latest film Flipped which he wrote and directed and will be released by Warner Brothers summer 2010. She can now be seen opposite Ray Romano as his recently separated wife in the critically acclaimed Men of a Certain Age on TNT which has just been picked up for a second season. Miller also stars in Avi Arad's (Ironman, Spider-Man) upcoming science fiction adventure Robosapien. Last year, she starred in Samuel Goldwyn's Free Style alongside Corbin Bleu (High School Musical 1, 2 & 3); and the independent 1950's drama Saving Grace B. Jones, based on a true-life event from the life of writer/director Connie Stevens which will be opening the Sedona Film Festival in February of 2010. Miller's recent credits also include Sony Pictures' box office hit The Messengers which opened #1. The supernatural thriller was produced by Sam Raimi. Miller starred opposite Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga), John Corbett and Dylan McDermott. She also starred in Think Films' slapstick comedy, Funny Money, opposite Chevy Chase, in which her performance was compared to Lucille Ball and Carole Lombard in their heydays. Miller was named "Star of Tomorrow" by the Motion Picture Bookers Club and "Most Promising Actress" by the Chicago Film Critics Association. She received a special jury award for Best Performance at the Hollywood Film Festival for her role in the independent feature Rhapsody in Bloom, and a Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of 'Emily' in Broadway's Tony-winning revival of "Our Town." Miller's television credits include "Rocky Marciano" opposite Jon Favreau and George C. Scott, "The Last Don" opposite Joe Montegna, "The Mary Kay Letourneau Story" for which she won critical acclaim and "Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story" opposite James Woods. Miller left her native Los Angeles when she was 18 and moved to New York, where she studied acting at HB Studios under Herbert Berghoff. Two years later, Miller got her big break on Broadway when she originated the role of "Daisy Hanningan" in Neil Simon's Tony Award-winning play Biloxi Blues. Later, she would reprise her role in Universal's film version, directed by Mike Nichols. Miller currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two daughters.
